National Anthem Compulsory In Movie Theaters, Rules Supreme Court

In a major decision, the Supreme Court today said that it was mandatory for movie theatres to play the National Anthem before a movie starts. The SC also made it mandatory that all theatre owners must display the National Flag on the screen before the start of a movie.
The SC said that the National Anthem must be played in full. An abridged version of the National Anthem cannot be played. The Anthem should not be commercially exploited. It’s dramatisation in variety shows is something that cannot be accepted the Bench also held. The SC observed that the time has come when people should feel they live in a nation. People cannot have perceived notions of freedom the Supreme Court also observed.
Thanks supreme court. Like cricket – hockey match national anthem should be played before every movie. I believe no one will have problem in standing for 72 seconds meanwhile it will feel us good like it used to do in schools.
If some one like fellow dimers feel shame in singing national anthem then they not need to stand , it is upto you. I believe no one will complaint against you for this ..
If its cricket or football whatever, players are representing their respective countries so it is reasonably right to include national anthems before every match
Even in schools, inclusion is justified (i would’nt say must, most of the kids really dunno whats the meaning to Jana gana mana or vandemataram but it implicates the equality feeling in kids) as today’s kids are tomorrow’s citizens. What kids learn today will help them to become responsible citizens
People go to movies to relax or to have some fun with family n friends
Sanctity of the national anthem and national flag should be maintained under all circumstances as far as I understood.
It seems Dangal has a scene with national anthem being sung and people are standing up with popcorn bags in hand / munching popcorn when it’s being played (as mentioned by someone I know – I haven’t seen the movie yet). Also, it seems people were getting up more with fear / embarrassment instead of pride..
We were taught to stand in attention (when national anthem is played) in school, but what is happening is different. Soon we will see undies/bikinis of national flag print(like Americans) and phone ringtones with national anthem with all this hype around nationalism.
How respectful & honourable is all this to our national anthem/ flag?
Texas v. Johnson, 491 U.S. 397 (1989), was a decision by the Supreme Court of the United States that invalidated prohibitions on desecrating i.e. disrepect or burn the American flag enforced in 48 of the 50 states. It was protected speech under the First Amendment to the United States Constitution.
That is how it should work.
Gov directive to the disabled for how to ‘act’ when the national anthem is played…utterly distasteful. If this goes through the secretaries(toppers of UPSC) and then through the ‘The Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities in the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment’ still gets a nod then #THOO on the merit they earned.
Great decision. At least anti nationals will learn to show respect

राष्ट्रगान अगर फिल्म या डॉक्युमेंट्री का हिस्सा तो खड़ा होना जरूरी नहीं: सुप्रीम कोर्ट
सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने मंगलवार को साफ किया कि अगर राष्ट्रगान किसी फिल्म या फिर किसी डॉक्युमेंट्री का हिस्सा हो तो खड़े होने की जरूरत नहीं है। कोर्ट ने कहा कि फिल्म की शुरुआत के दौरान राष्ट्रगान पर खड़े हों। सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने साथ ही कहा कि राष्ट्रगान पर खड़े होने पर बहस की जरूरत है।
कोर्ट ने कहा कि वह नैतिकता का पहरेदार नहीं है। इधर केंद्र सरकार ने भी कोर्ट को बताया कि राष्ट्रगान पर खड़े होने का फिलहाल कानून नहीं है। बता दें कि राष्ट्रगान के मामले में सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने ऐतिहासिक आदेश दिया था। पिछले साल सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने अपने आदेश में कहा था कि सिनेमा हॉल और मल्टीप्लेक्स में अब फिल्मों को दिखाने से पहले राष्ट्रगान बजाना अनिवार्य होगा। इसके अलावा राष्ट्रगान बजाने के दौरान स्क्रीन पर तिरंगा भी दिखाना जरूरी होगा और राष्ट्रगान को सम्मान देने के लिए दर्शकों को अपनी जगह पर खड़ा भी होना पड़ेगा। इसके साथ ही कोर्ट राष्ट्रगान के फायदे के लिए इस्तेमाल ना करने का भी निर्देश दिया था।
बता दें कि सिनेमा हॉल और मल्टीप्लेक्स में राष्ट्रगान बजने के दौरान लोगों के खड़े नहीं होने पर कई विवाद हो चुके हैं। राष्ट्रगान पर खड़े नहीं होने पर कई लोगों की पिटाई का भी मामला सामने आया था।
