Hey Folks,
I am going abroad next week for 15days.
Easiest way to convert money in any country is to take dollar there.
But now in market to get dollar is impossible, people demanding 100 INR for 1$.
So what is the easiest way??
Can i load money in my account and do cash withdrawal there? any idea about charges??
Any other way guys??
TIA.
Banks will provide foreign currency…take your visa along with you
But Travel card from your bank. Take International Debit card (inform bank about foreign trip). Take travellers cheques. But whatever you do, dont take Indian currency thinking you can exchange it there. it will be tough and expensive. Refer desiyatri website for some spending and buying guides in foreign currency.
Dont buy from Thomas Cook unless its only option. They offer worst exchange rates in town. Kala dhan hai toh 100 mei lelo. tab bhi theek hai.

Hi, the best way is to withdraw cash in that country. I have been to several countries and I take about 50-100$ in hand & withdraw cash from abroad ATMs. Please note for one withdrawal there will be charge of 125+taxes. So best is to think and decide how much you need there.

Yea 125+ST only this charge? Some said there is foreign exchange mark up fee of 2-3.5%.
Any other hidden charges?

Saw details about forex card, i don’t think any other benefit is there other than locking the exchange rate, As all the transactions are having some charges same as simple DC/CC has.
Chk www.bookmyfor...om
they provide one of the cheapest rate. You can transfer to their sccount via rtgs/neft and they will deliver forex card to your home/office.
@kanz wrote:Currency exchange fees I only saw on my HDfc cards but Dbs and icici provides a very good rate during withdrawal.@deals44u wrote:

you save a lot in markup and currency charges. visa and master card always have a higher rates on top of which you give 5% markup unless you have any special card.
in abroad almost everywhere be it bus train or restaurant your card will work so take accordingly.

Wrong. Once you load the forex card with a certain amount of dollars, there is no extra charge per transaction for paying in dollars.

HDFC forex card has negligible charges. There will be atm withdrawal charges of $3 and you can withdraw a maximum of $800 at once.

if you buy the card from bookmyforex you get like 2 withdrawals free. But if you are going to US these guys now have 2 charges one is what your atm machine charges you and the other one is what your corresponding bank charges you. So your corresponding charges will be zero in case of bmf. There are no limits in forex card until you exhaust it. But this card doesn’t works with uber there in case you want to use it get your cc, dc card activated for international transactions.
Withdrawing by forex card in chargeble but many banks like hdfc or axis give 3-5 withdrawals free and if it is corporate card all transaxtions are free. There is no markup for payment done at merchant POS machines. Ask merchant to use credit card option while payment. I have used HDFC and AXIS bank cards internationaly and not faced issues.

Two things:
(1) I said no extra charges for paying in dollars. Almost every Forex card I have used does charge some amount for cash withdrawals at the ATM. I never buy 3rd party branded Forex cards just to avoid hidden charges like the ones you mentioned. Always a good idea to buy directly from banks or via local travel agents like I mentioned in my linked post above.
(2) Most Forex cards do require extra steps in order to use them for electronic transactions (i.e. non-swipe transactions). But once you activate online transactions, the cards would work perfectly fine on Uber or any other site/app.
PayPal card is what I will recommend
@DealSeeker wrote:My point is dont question unless you dont know how things work.

BMF always gives u cards from icici hdfc or axis. They make you meet agents who will provide u cards. All conditions are well stated. You can directly pay using imps and get the card in 15-20 minutes.
Third party services are always good, you need to choose them mindfully.
There was never an activation needed in my case.

Huh? When did I question anything about BMF? For your previous post, did you mistakenly quote my post instead of somebody else’s?
Thanks all of you for your replies, have decided to take Forex Card from Bookmyforex website.

guys what if someone needs to visit bangkok? My friend went last year and he converted rupees to dollars. He converted dollars to baht at bangkok airport. while coming back he converted baht into dollars again at bangkok airport and converted dollars into rupees in india. This way he got cheao rates. What do you suggest presently?
Yes, you can get a better deal this way. See point # 3 in the following post where I mentioned something similar: https://www.desidime.com/forums/dost-and-dimes/t...
Yes but will such conversion still be easy and cheap in the current times of cash crunch?
