There is no airport in agra. You will have to take a flight to Delhi and then either bus / cab to agra.

You can take a Volvo bus from Delhi but it goes to agra isbt. The agra isbt is on the city outskirts and you need to take a rickshaw to actually reach agra.

Main point – All the rickshaw drivers in agra are thugs, they will try to fleece you at every given time. Avoid rickshaws at all times.

Only 3 places in agra are worth visiting.
1. Taj mahal
2. Agra Fort
3. Fatepur sikhri (can be reached by taking a bus from agra)

All can be covered in 1 day. Visit taj early in the morning. It opens at 6am. Security at taj is more than the airport. You can’t take anything except phone and cameras. The ticket booth and storage area for taj is literally 1km away from the entrance. Try to get tickets online.

If you want cheap stay and close to taj mahal you can consider zostel. Alternatively there are quite a few branded hostels in agra, Google it.

Hope this helps.

Enjoy your trip.

Delhi can be covered almost in a day if u plan and want to skip one or two places . I had to strike off jama masjid and the frioz Shah kotla fort since it was not fitting my route and plan . Started from gurgaon so first visited the kutub minar , then went to lotus temple , iskon temple ( personally dint feel it to be worth ) , then visited the humayuns tomb , then had a quick lunch at some nearby market area , visited the India gate saw the Parliament from a distance , Bangla sahib gurdwara ( must visit ) ,skipped jantar mantar )lon the way , next visited Connaught place did some quick shopping , hopped on to metro had some famous dahi bhallas in Chandni chowk , saw the red fort , then made our way back to Delhi ( Might have covered the laser show @ akshardam but had to head back to gurgaon for a dinner so skipped that part . And all the travelling was done in Uber /ola and was really not at all expensive on the pocket . U can also try the Delhi hoho bus tours but I prefer personal transport as you can spend time as per your own desire . Hoho buses I think run every 30 mins each bus will drop u at a location and you need to hop onto the next bus 30 mins later .

For agra take the shatabdi or the new fastest train to reach Agra . Do not fall in the trap of the local cabbies . Open ola get yourself a ride to the tajmahal .Do not take any tourist guides or people who say they will take you through VIP entry and stuff . Also avoid buying any handicraft, marble carvings , wodden artifact or jwellety from the India handloom or any other store inside or outside the taj as they will make a killing from tourists . Enjoy the day in Agra I only made a visit for the Taj but you can see some other places if u find time .Get some panchi petha, all are original panchi if we believe them , maybe finding the real one can be harder than finding needle in a haystack . Catch a return train to Delhi around 3.30/4 reach Delhi by 7 in the evening .

Here are my useless inputs :

Delhi-Agra route is extremely well connected by road as well as rail.

Heard about Gatimaan Express ?
→ Take this fastest train from Hazrat Nizamuddin railway station for your onward journey from Delhi to Agra.
Link: http://indiarailinfo.com/train/-train-gatimaan-...
Just 1 hour 40 mins to reach Agra from Delhi non-stop! https://cdn2.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_smile.gif

→ Kindly note that Hazrat Nizamuddin railway station is different from New Delhi Railway station.
To reach this train station, you can hire an Uber/Ola from wherever in Delhi
or
Board the Delhi metro and reach Race Course Metro station on yellow line or Jungpura metro station on violet line !
From there, either an auto for 60-80 bucks or an Uber/Ola to the train station.

→ Since Nizamuddin is near India Gate, you can plan in such a way that you spend some time before train departs in the morning at India Gate. It will be fun in winter morning (considering your Valentine’s day). But, beware of neuter gender in the area. https://cdn1.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_biggrin.gif
________________________________________________________________________________
→ About your stay in Agra.
Suggestion: Makemytrip : Choose budget and filter accordingly.
Use coupon MMTMI which is giving Flat 70% off upto Rs 2300 which is best deal on date!
Try to choose a property with minimum three stars. https://cdn3.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_wink.gif

Abundance of hotels in Agra. No problem on this front.

→ Regarding local travel, try to book a local cab for the days and keep autowallahs off the bay. https://cdn3.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_cool.gif
Travel #LikeAboss
→ Another good option would be, to head towards, Zoomcar
Only in case you can drive. Traffic is very rough in U.P. but you can still sail through with some effort. https://cdn1.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_confused.gif

→ While in Agra, you can book some nice buffet meals at high-end properties.
For this you need to check little app/nearbuy.
Here, I suggest you to check reviews for the restaurant at Zomato and then choose where you are heading to.
It can be a big cost saving and you will be able to enjoy so called 5-star experience. https://cdn3.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_surprised.gif

→ Regarding safety of yourself and personal belongings, please be extra vigilant.
And carry chain locks as well as suitcase locks to avoid any mess later.
You can buy something like: http://www.amazon.in/Numlock-Multipurpose-Numbe...

And above all, read some basic details and reviews about places to visit on tripadvisor

Hope you have an amazing Taj experience. https://cdn3.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_wink.gif

My 2 cents even though i have not visited Agra till date. But planning to visit in January, so did a lot of research.

Leave from source location in morning by flight. Reach Delhi by afternoon 2. If you are leaving from Bangalore/Mumbai, flight charges will be around 3k per head.
Take a metro/uber to NDLS (max 300). Reach by 4 or 5.
Take Poorva express that leaves at around 5:40 (Cost depends on your flexibility. General will be around 100)
Reach Agra by 9. Check in to Taj Inn which is around 20 mins walk from Taj. (1-2k per night depending on your flexibility)
Go to Taj early morning at sunrise. Avoids any rush and Taj will be all yours even though it will be very cold. (rickshaw +tickets around 200)
Back to hotel, check out and visit Agra fort. Have lunch in afternoon and take the train to Delhi.
Stay in any hotel in Delhi (1-2k)
Next morning take any of the Delhi Darshan package or HOHO service if you like to spend more/less time in certain places.(1500 for 2)
Return by night flight to home (3k)

Budget will be around 8-9k per head
