Need to know : Are the electronic shavers good ?

Nowadays I see lots of people buying electronic shavers. There is already a posting on our forum for Philips AquaTouch AT610/14 Men’s Shaver.

I used Philips shaver some 20 years back which was a gift from a relative in the UK. And my experience was not good. It had to be used only for dry shaving and it was not smooth. I understand that years have passed and the products have improved. So here are my questions:

1. Do these shavers can replace the regular gel and blade shaving ?
2. Do these shavers really give smooth shaving experience ?
3. How long the heads last ? Which are other replaceable components ? How about the maintenance ?
4. Which are the parameters to consider while buying such products ?
5. Which are the really good products in the market ?

I am opening this thread to invite comments from people using such products. I think it can become a buying guide of shavers.

Your approx budget?

This not only about “my” budget.

First of all this is an attempt to get answers, get understanding about the machine and know the experience of the users.

It is important to know about the parameters that one should look for while purchasing such products. For example if one wants to buy an android phone the most important factors are Processor, RAM, Resolution and storage among others. Then one tries to look at the budget and check what best can come in his or her budget. I request dimers to throw light on parameters related to shavers.

I had used Braun Shaver which I purchased from UK in year 2000 https://cdn2.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_wink.gif
I had exactly same exp. that you were having.

I would also be interested in buying a new one seeing the reviews from fellow dimers https://cdn1.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_smile.gif

@bridges I have gone through many different electric shavers and I have found Braun shavers to be the best among them all. My last electric shaver was a Braun series 5 with the complete cleaning/lubrication system. I switched to electric shavers about 11 years ago with the hopes of getting a quicker and smoother shaving experience. Mind you, I made the switch after trying the latest and greatest Gillette Fusion razors available at that time. However, just like you, I was let down by the skin chafing and irritation which were the reasons I switched to electric shaving in the first place. So I ended up switching to trimming a few years ago and have never been happier. It’s so much faster and doesn’t cause any chafing or bumps.

In conclusion, I would suggest you to buy a trimmer unless your job/work necessitates having a clean shave. Budget choice: Philips QT4011; Advanced choice: Philips QG3387 All in One.

Like you, I also switched to Trimmer ( I have Philips QT4019 Trimmer purchased from Tradus in 2012 ).
I never got satisfied with E Shavers so I switched to Trimmer and found it okay. I cause almost no irritation, they are quick and easy to maintenance. Sometime I use it and sometime Victor Plus when clean shave is required.

@DealSeeker, @xuseronline,
Your experience and my experience are similar. I am looking for a shaving system for a clean shave. After these discussion I think the electronic shavers cannot replace the gel and blade shaving system at least for a clean shave.

I would still wait for others to share their experiences.

@hackerboys, Are you using the Nova for a clean shave ? Does it give you an experience of a shave as good as done with a gel and a Gillete Mach 3 ? Agar saste me aisa experience milta hai to nothing like it.

from the beginning of what-so-ever beard i have, i have been trimming only, and it’s been 6 years in which Nova trimmer from ebay served purpose for almost 4.5 continuous years, and then when it broke, i switched to Philips QG 3389 and i can say, i have no issue till date with trimming,

about the electric shaver part, i also had the dilemma to choose between that and trimmer, but from reviews (online/offline), i concluded that a trimmer is better for me. https://cdn1.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_biggrin.gif

one factor was the money here as well, good review shavers were in range of 5k and more, which was way out of my budget, so i didn’t bother and just bought a trimmer

I asked about budget because i have used higher end shavers.

Braun Series 9 is excellent. You can purchase 9040 for around 14-15K or less and that is as good as the other costly shavers. And it is wet & dry shaver

you are looking at the wrong end of the question.

does your skin turn red, itchy, soars if you use these kind if shavers?

sensitive skin or one with pimples straight avoid then. rather put money on gillette fusion. recently was a 50% off special offer on exclusively.com app
