OLA KA GOLA -No one would ever want to experience.

It was Raksha Bandhan eve with beautiful weather and drizzling outside.

Unaware of all this, someone was passionately working in office at a place in the heart of Delhi, until phone rang. There was a call from family and as usual there was a demand to be home in time, specially because some pre-festival things were to be taken care.

She: “Tomorrow is Raksha Bandhan and we got to do something. How soon can we expect you?”

An obedient He, looking at watch that showed 7pm, realized that he didn’t carry the car today, so he needed to take the cab, calculated 45 mins of transit time and confidently said, “Well, I should be home by 8pm”.

He was too sure of OLA… which was the “mistake”.

And it started a chapter of experiencing worst of the services and customer servicing from much hyped cab aggregator company, OLA.
He tried to book the cab but found no cab for quite some time. Seems there was an event rush which the company could not manage.

Anyway, after continuous refreshes for 23 mins, he finally got one cab at 7:23pm (CRN: 350954108; Driver #1: Vinod) at 1.5x price. He was happy, after all he had to reach home early. Hence he accepted the booking.

Cab was scheduled to arrive in 10 mins so he finished his emails and quickly got ready to catch it.

Soon 10 mins got over but there was no cab so he called the cab driver. Driver asked him where is the drop and he truthfully told, “It’s Noida”.

The driver probably found the drop little far, (25 kms to be precise), and he may have thought that he might not complete his daily ride targets. So he decided and communicated not to carry on with this ride. Anyway, he requested the driver to cancel the ride so that system could get him another cab.

Surprisingly, soon after he got the message that the driver had arrived and waiting. No prizes to guess, the drive was bluffing with the system. And later driver canceled the ride stating the passenger had denied to board.

He was unhappy but left with no option, called the Ola contact center, where he was treated very well. Agent assured him to get another cab. He was indeed reassigned a new cab and SMS arrived (Driver #2 Rohit: 19:39pm).

This driver, probably didn’t like him as well, and denied to pick this ride, and hence the ride moved to another cab (Driver #3: Deepak Kumar).

This driver, again didn’t like him as well, and refused to pick this ride, and hence the ride moved to another cab (Driver #4: Kamal).

He was truly impressed with automatic technology and how the drivers were getting changed one after another. But Alas, he was not allowed to enjoy the weather, the cab driver #4, also chose to cancel the ride.

He again called the contact center. This time contact center shared their all the technology challenges and why couldn’t they revive or reassign the ride to another cab any further. He was clueless on what to do.

He somehow managed to reach CP by taking lift from a friend, thinking of getting better cab connectivity but here as well the situation was same. He waited and refreshed continuously for quite some time to get another cab.

He managed another cab with new CRN: 351086146 and a cab (Driver #5: Ravi) was assigned. Time was now 8.30pm. Ravi was an innocent driver who didn’t know the tricks of the trade. Hence he agreed to take him home.

After couple of miles, driver disclosed the cab didn’t have enough gas and requested for 30 to 45 mins break for getting fuel tank refilled. Thinking of family, he didn’t agree to spend that much extra time with the driver. May be he thought of spending that time with better people around.

On enquiring why did the driver accept the ride, the driver disclosed that if he had cancelled the ride, he would have got penalized. Hence, he had accepted the ride first and informed later. He was not innocent but an extra smart driver.

Clear cut process lapse at Ola
Driver even informed the same to contact center and hence no option left but to terminate the ride mid way.

He stepped out and realized mobile data was not working. He called the Ola customer service and told the whole story.

As usual the robotic Ola service team had nothing more to do than apologize. They could not book cab on his behalf, “You know technical challenges”, and recommended to find “some place” where the data network is available to run Ola app, otherwise manage by yourself.

Clear cut shrugging off the responsibility.
How can the company leave the passenger mid way without any option?
He travelled around and found a pocket where he could get the Ola app working. He again booked the ride [CRN: 351120106] and cab Driver #6: Manjeet) was scheduled to come in 7 mins.

He waited and kept an eye on number plate of every vehicle and in time there was a cab bearing same number as given in the SMS and Ola App. He stopped the cab and told him about booking. Driver confirmed the name and asked the magical question: “Where is the drop”.

And you know! This driver also refused to honor the booking by saying he had not received any such booking. Even giving the reference number didn’t work. Calling the driver from the app landed on his mobile but he probably had another agenda in mind so he quietly pedalled the accelerator and moved on.

He was standing on the road, “enjoying” the weather, clicking pics of isolated place, again tried the luck and called the contact center for help, but as usual, contact center refused to help any further.

He kept trying to book more cabs and finally found a cab (Driver #7: Satish). Cab came after 10 mins as promised that took him home safely. He happily reached home at 10pm.

Took 2 extra hours but had lots of learning.
Learning:

Ola doesn’t care how many times the ola drivers ditch. 6 extra times here.
Ola doesn’t care how much time you wasted because of Ola booking and cancellations. 2 extra hours here.
Driver doesn’t mind leaving the passengers mid way at lonely place and Ola doesn’t take the responsibility of in-transit passengers, even if they charge 1.5x fee.

Open Question:

When someone has accepted to pay 1.5x charge to take cab to reach home, why wouldn’t Ola take the responsibility of in-transit passenger? Who would be responsible for time waste and harassment mid-way?
This is the story of every common person using Ola cab services. Currently almost every ride that people try, on an average one driver ditches. It is happening with almost all commuters every day.

Dang ,Thanks GOD that the people are seeing reality .. seeing the real mirror … Few points which i said earlier too , will repeat again .

1. Uber / Ola are just ride sharing platform , they don’t OWN the enrolled drivers .. they can penalize them ( Monetarily) or debar them .. tats it , these drivers are just normal Indian people .. like you/me .

2. Introduce anything / change the method / way / technology , but people will remain same .. these are same drivers like regular kali-peeli or auto or any old age system drivers .. theirs way / method of working will remain the same .

3. Cheap 6Rs/KM is just another illusion trick , running now , they are burning funds .. but what when everything comes to reality ? ( Old rates of 15-20 Rs/KM – this was an independent earning model ) , In Goa prepaid taxi charges 900 Rs for 21 Kms .

P.S – I had similar experience with Uber yesterday , mine was a time critical ride https://cdn3.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_sad.gif

I had similar experiences with Ola and ditched their app for good ever since. Sadly Uber was no different until they recently introduced the option of selecting the destination too before booking. So right now the driver is aware of how far he would have to travel even before accepting the ride.

Even after keying in the destination there were a few instances where the driver calls me up and requests me to cancel the trip but that’s like a rare scenario now.

PS: As far as I know the driver needs to accept the ride on Uber but from what you say it seems like the driver is forced to accept a ride on Ola.

Had a similar incident many times with OLA https://cdn2.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_toungueout.gif even few driver left in mid of ride, saying i cant waste time with ur ride, i need to achieve my target to get incentive… They have an option to cancel the ride after 10 mins, OLa shd stop this and they shd giv incentive based on earnings not trips…

all because of incentive scheme they giving blindly without thinking of its harms , drivers use to think that customer is booking ola/uber just for cheap price so they behave like this , they even dont care how valuable that ride can be for that customer . incentive plan should be changed accordingly so that drivers can’t exploit offers + consumers . also ola on cancellation by driver should call customer for the same if he had actually cancelled or not , and there should be a option on app for reason and comment on that reason of cancellation .

also if any dimer here think that ola is serving too cheap , then in peak hours always surge pricing make the fare more than other cabs even then drivers do behave rudely , while in day time with no incentive , no surge price , drivers do drop in nice way . so its greed which those companies creating in their mind , so its not all about pricing or burning funds , its depend on how these companies paying to drivers or charging commission .

Although Uber is less costly, but Uber is no less worse when it comes to these Experiences. Try booking Uber on 7-10 pm times in gurgaon and pick the destination as Delhi/Noida. Most of them will not come/request you to cancel, and if anyone do come,he will keep telling of how he is still short of incentive drive’s cut-off. https://cdn2.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_evil.gif

Agree with @bk08 in many points..but the problem lies with the user as well. Repeatedly ola was cancelling the rides, why did he persisted with ola only? Why not uber? That story is missing.
Also as bk said these are our Indian drivers who hate going at isolated places as there is less scope for later rides there. After all its India and if you think apps like ola or uber can vastly improve your commute times everyday, then we do have a serious problem here.
No offense to op or anyone who has really experienced this. Guys I too have experienced it and trust me its better to move on.

I’m not surprised. Ola service has gone to the dogs. Blame entirely goes to Ola for designing the incentives in a way which discourages long rides. Most of the Ola drivers out there are only interested to complete their quota of 15 rides so that they get assured incentives.

Uber was in the same situation few months back. No driver was interested in long trips. Eventually Uber realized the same and changed the incentives system. A driver now needs to earn 1800 rs in revenue to get some sort of incentives. If Ola moves to a revenue target model instead of number of trips, driver cancellations will come down.

PS : Coming to the person who wrote this article. He could have simply taken metro to reach his place. I’m sure metro would have dropped him much faster than an Ola/Uber driver would do. Being a holiday, he wouldn’t have faced the peak hour crowd also.

its only when somebody faces the music, learns and not by other’s experience. Few months back, in the time when ola used to take advance bookings, I booked a cab for airport for a Monday morning and that too 4 days in advance at 5:30 pm. got the cab message at 5:15 with drivers details. in next 5 mins got an automated call that cab has been cancelled on customers request and please press 1 if you have not done it so that new cab can be assigned. on pressing 1, phone got disconnected and never got any alternate cab. called customer care where the guy clearly told that there is no provision to book or provide any cab through call center and you have to book only from the app. i told him , if i would have found a cab on app then i would have booked it. that why i am calling the customer center for help, what you are guys are sitting for if you cant do anything, only thing he did was apologized and took my complaint, i have not got any resolution for it till today, on complaining on twitter, i got a reply that have you booked any cab after it and completed the ride then we can refund you the money, what a smart answer, if i would have got a cab that time i would have taken it. but till today they have failed to resolve it or accept their mistake, they are shameless . took meru and it promptly arrived in 10 mins that day and save me from missing the flight. that day i was having more than 1000 rs as ola money. I promptly finished my money and never looked their way till today, though to use that money I too have faced numerous cancellation by drivers, surge fares and continuous waste of time in booking cabs, refreshing the screen when there are no cabs nearby.

I feel in the world of technology we have entangled us more. We all claim to have a busy life but failed to understand that we still have 24 hours in a day. we end up wasting it to save a few bucks and then put the blame as busy life to to do things which we like or to relax

I sometimes drive for Uber under uberCommute program.

Driver doesn’t know the destination until the trip starts.

For all those comparing Uber/Ola to radio taxi/other cab services, one basic difference remains that Uber/Ola is on-demand and virtually instant. I used to book Meru etc earlier and was still not sure if they would arrive. With Ola/Uber, I might get late and ride expensive, but I still know something might be there to drop me.

+1 driver can only know drop location after starting d trip or if he calls d customer and ask directly….
Everyone has different views for different things so nothing against anyone but at d end I will say only one thing,
Ignore dis cab service just try any local cab/auto in peak hour from any malls/highways/stations u will hev to wait for same time nd also face similar ignoring for small trips ND for dat u cannot complaint to anyone coz its local ND no feedback options
But in ola/uber/meru ur feedback matters if u experience any similar experience u can raise issue nd u will surely be treated as customer wid some discount for next trip or some compensation also u can teach lesson to dos drivers…
Ps: If anyone thinking drivers are only interested in completing 15 rides targets ND incentives dan u can spoil der incentives by giving less feedback it wont be ignored…

I haven’t used Ola after a horrible experience long back. But yeah, Ola is nowhere near Uber in terms customer experience.

Most of the drivers work with the likes of Uber have experience in gaming the systems. The drivers faked significant share of Uber chain’s rides. Considering that, Indian drivers are far better. And Uber India is trying to a better job by introducing better incentive system for the drivers. Now they have earnings based incentives and the old incentives scheme, they decide it based on the driver’s performance.

Bangaloreans, we don’t have to worry about missing flights anymore due to arrogant Uber drivers.:-D
