Online shoppers who have a bad track record while opting for cash on delivery (CoD) may not be given this option by e-tailers giant like Flipkart, Amazon, Paytm and others. The e-tailer giants are in the mood to deny this option to e-commerce shoppers. According to the E-commerce portals and e-tailers, around 65 per cent of the e-commerce business is executed through cash on delivery option. These e-tailers complain that around one-third of the cash on delivery assignment is not accepted by the e-shoppers because they take cash on delivery option for granted while doing online shopping.

In a Zee Business TV Program, e-tailers revealed that in the case of non-delivery of the cash on delivery consignment, e-commerce portals lose Rs 50 to Rs 150. They also said that such non-deliveries are due to the bad behavior of the online shoppers who take cash on delivery option for granted. Hence, to isolate such online shoppers, e-commerce portals are looking to develop software that will reflect their behavior. If the software gives a negative impression of the online shopper, then the e-tailers would deny cash on the delivery option to the online shopper.
Zee Business TV contacted e-tailers like Flipkart, and Amazon, but they neither denied any such move nor did they accept. It has been found that some of the online shoppers have taken CoD for granted. Since the online platforms don’t want to penalize those customers who have used this CoD option in a bad way, the software is meant to first classify the behavior of the online customer and then on the basis of that will be denied or made available to the online customers.
