Hi Guys,
I had sent my parents on a trip… Now the problem is they have to travel to a different location today with a driver and his fee is 9000 Rs so they had obviously kept the 1000rs notes aside for him…however after last night’s announcement they are scared they might not have enough cash to even make it to the airport!
My dad does not have a debit card with him.. He does have a cc though. There are no relatives in the region where they are right now.
What can be the possible options?
Any advice is appreciated!

You can always IMPS the 9K to driver’s bank account after the trip is completed. Heck, you can talk to the driver beforehand and see if he can arrange some extra cash in smaller denominations for your parents’ miscellaneous expenses. You can include this amount along with a tip for the driver’s help.
By the way, petrol bunks from public-sector companies (HP, Indian Oil) are still supposed to accept the older 500 and 1000 notes so your parents can also try to exchange their notes there, at least some of them. Oops! Did I just reveal something sensitive?!

These petrol bunk guys are accepting 500/1000 notes but they are not having hundred rupee notes, at least the ones near my home
Thankfully deposited the 500/1000 n made few withdrawals of 400 last night at 11:30pm
Jus in case…if u hav icici account… u can use cashless transfer facility… no debit card is required to withdraw cash….

@mandeep89
bro, chill, ask parent to find any govt establishment to help out on exchange like banks, petrol bunks, banks, post offices, hospitals etc mainly PSU’s / govt entity
in worst case pay the driver a bit extra n he will surely manage.
Hi Guys,
Thank you each and everyone for the advice!
The ICICI cashless withdrawal was the first one that came to my mind as well!
Just wanted to give a quick update: The driver has agreed to take the 5X1000Rs notes as payment for fuel and rest 4000 via IMPS.
The hotel from which they were checking out created a ruckus because they didn’t accept cards, eventually they ended up accepting the notes
So all in all a great day!
Thank you for your advice dear friends!

BTW, Indian Railway and Airlines are accepting 500/1000 notes.
Ask driver if he would accept paytm
Cancel Trip. Ask them to come back and Pay driver later.
