The platform called Paytm Mall, inspired by Alibaba’s business-to-consumer portal TMall, will focus on structured categories and brand-authorised stores with a focus on electronics, top fashion brands and FMCG categories.
The launch of the application comes as Paytm is raising new round at this demerged entity, which will give Chinese e-commerce major Alibaba and payments affiliate Alipay a combined majority stake.

Nothing new. Everything is available in old paytm app. No need to instal it friends.
Does PayTM have a future after the investments dry up?
of course! it’s debatable whether there have been any benefits of demonetization but i can say for sure that paytm has 100% benefited from it.
Almost every shops in my city accept paytm as payment mode which means much business for them.
Also as you can see cashbacks have dried up (almost 0) for electricity, recharge, bill payments etc.
There is something for movie tickets, travel tickets etc. but they would go soon too.
As per statics available, digital wallet usage went up after DEMONitization. However from Jan, the usage has again been going down as cash became available. Why would anyone pay with wallet if cash is available unless there is a perk? You could say advantage is that carrying change all the time is not needed. But look at the disadvantage, you are depending on several factors – your device, your data connection, the merchant’s device, his data connection and PayTM’s systems. If any one fails even for the few minutes, your transaction will not go thru. What if money has been debited from your wallet and not credited to the merchant. At a shop, what will you do? I was once stuck with a meru cab for 45 minutes when money was deducted from my wallet but he did not receive a confirmation. None of these wallets have a very robust system. Security of these wallets is a different story, better not talk about it!
My belief is that once the discounts/cash backs stop, all these wallets will die a slow death except those that have other primary source of income like wallets operated by banks (pockets etc.). Some of the others will stay but with considerably reduced usage like olamoney (olacabs), paytm (uber/meru) etc.
All of them might say they have x million consumers, but the real question is – what is the profit they have made so far? They are only trying to increase the consumer base and get more funding. Payumoney wallet shut down. They then bought Citrus wallet (what for I wonder!). Freecharge is for sale. MobiKwik will soon follow.
Any loot here… guys, figure out and let us know…
