Peppertap vs Grofers Comparison

Okay so today was my first order on peppertap since it launched in Mumbai. I was eagerly waiting for some competitor like peppertap to hook me off Grofers so as soon as I knew peppertap launched in Mumbai I booked my order with @vcxv referral code. So even though it’s early for me to comment on peppertap lets compare these two hyper local delivery startups
1) UI: Peppertap wins in the battle of UI. Much more sleeker UI not fully material design but a few elements in peppertap app comply with material design standard . And each category has product images which grofers lack. Imp. Also different sizes neatly stacked up and also ordering from desktop option overall software devs at peppertap seem to have done a great job
2) Delivery Time: I booked an order around noon yesterday and the next available slot was only today noon. Even as I write I checked out and the delivery slot currently avaliable in Mumbai is 6 to 8 tommorow. Atleast for the time being grofers wins since its really 90 mins for me or even earlier.
Edit: As per the dimers comments below it looks like either due to excessive order on account or referalls or being new in mumbai operations there is this delay in delivery.
3)range of Products: I can’t really comment on the range of products but overall both seem really satisfactory. You have a complete list to choose from so overall it’s a tie in this department
4) Wrong products delivered: Both are the same. In my very first order I had ordered yipee noodles 3 packs whereas they gave me a pack of 4 instead of 3 packs of rs10. Grofers also does it all the time.And as I say these are more like logistics company ( I don’t know exact peppertap model) and these mistakes are bound to happen which only full fledged retailers like bigbasket, rfreshdirect can address.
5) Alternative: grofers have most of the times called and asked whether a substitute product is fine if they can’t find a particular product. But in my first order with peppertap they couldn’t find lion deseeded dates and without even asking if any alternative is available they ticked it off stating its oos. A good part about peppertap in all this was atleast it cared to remove the item from the app since when I checked again they removed the item from the app. In all grofers won on this front
6) Discounts: Grofers seems to be the undisputed king due to numerous coupons which seem to be avaliable atleast a couple which work even on old accounts every week. Peppertap generally seems to be giving discounts only to new users and occasion specific discounts + some happy hours discounts so I guess both are good if u have to place a single order a week. Don’t forget that some products on peppertap already carry some discount so your % discount is more but even grofers send some freebies on Saturdays or Sundays so basically it’s a draw on this front
6) Refunds: refunds on peppertap happen in peppercash whereas grofers follows cash refunds/refund in ur bank acc. I’m not a strong supporter of such worthless wallets cause u stick ur money which cant be used nowhere else.anyways not a decisive factor but still something to be wary about.
7) Delivery guys: grofers have all their guys painted orange all over whereas the peppertap delivery guy was in plain uniform. Nothing much to comment since again it’s not anything which can affect ur buying decision
8)cc support: can’t comment because dint try calling peppertap cc
Note: As it was my first order with peppertap so somethings which I posted about peppertap might be contrary to what other users might have observed . Feel free to point out and correct those parts.

But does peppertap deliver in ur area in 2 hrs. Being newly launched in Mumbai I don’t think they would have that many orders to justify almost 24 hrs of delivery time.
For the coupons as I said and search grofers has much more coupons for old accounts whereas peppertap has this happy hours stuff almost every week and festive discounts so I said for a normal shopper both sites give ample discounts
For 1st Point) Search is amazing in peppertap compare to grofers. In Grofers it hard to find specific item with weight. Range of products are pretty good compare to grofers.
For point 2) in normal days with 2 hour slot is enabled. may be due to high orders. with affect of referral, they don’t have slots.
For 5th point) I never got call from grofers about delivered product quality, I placed more then 30-40 in last 6 months.
For 7th point) may they are still new mumbai.. in Hyderabad all delivery boys wear red tshirt with peppertap logo and big bag similar to other delivery boys.
In my area they deliver within 15 min and max it took 1hour

I got call from peppertap for this kind of issue. not from grofers.

I got call from peppertap for this kind of issue. not from grofers.
Surprsingly vice versa for me but for peppertap it was only my first order so need to judge them on a few more orders
Okay but let me tell u how grofers works as told to me by a delivery guy .it might not be the same everywherw but in mumbai my area alone has 50 grofers delivery guys and they only go to the store to pickup the goods
Its the shopper ( another guy asigned with purchasing the goods who does all the purchasing and is deputed at the store ) .So might be the guy at fault in ur case is the shopper since hes lazy to call the cc to inform that a product is not available and this is the substitute .
One more thing the delivery guy or shopper cannot call us directly for this substitution .he has to call the cc and the cc calls us so sometimes due to the lazyness of the shopper to call cc we lose out

The best thing to do for such cases is to find out the contact details of the Grofers Area Sales Manager (ASM) or somebody from the operations team in your city and get him to reprimand the shopper. You can ask the delivery guy.

No, I didn’t. Purchased one Groupon voucher and even that expired without being utilized.

Range of products is much better on Grofers, so many varieties of same category of products are available. Also the point regarding the alternative is the worst thing about Peppertap in my opinion. They won’t delete the item even after saying OOS, and I ordered a basic item like milk (different varieties) on 3 consecutive days at different timings, and everytime they failed to deliver it on the pretext of OOS. I wonder how such a basic item can be OOS in any store. Grofers has very much improved on their delivery timelines now, and Peppertap is yet to catch up on that.
I prefer Peppertap over groafers. I got calls from Peppertap when ever they don’t have same brand/quantity but most spices/dals are of heritage brand only even though we order 24mantra etc. From groafers I never got a call even though they serve different brand.
In case of non-availability of product, Peppertap returns full amount on COD, whereas groafers calculates discounted price for refunds.
Vegetable prices are high in groafers so even after discount also no where match to Peppertap.
Groafers, weight of vegetables not sure. Once I weighed it and found 900gms for 1kg beans.

Both suck compared to bigbasket.
I had ordered only once from peppertap for vinayaka chavithi gift hamper.. They made it OOS in my order and even after I cancelled the rest of the order, they sent the delivery boy to deliver those items. When I said I cancelled the order, he said you could’ve accepted the rest of the items which are in stock. I got pissed with his not so polite response. Agreed, this is only based on experience from one order – but my biggest gripe is they still show the gift hamper in stock and I was able to add to cart.
Grofers is erratic and they can not deliver the correct items even if their life is on the line. Every single time they have messed up the items. But the good thing is their customer care listens and the delivery boys are professional enough. And one can not understate the 90 min delivery (maybe this is the reason for their mess ups) and promotions they offer time to time.
Still, when I don’t have urgency to receive the items, I prefer bigbasket over grofers 10 out of 10 times.
