First used commercially in 2009, certain farmers in India’s Punjab region have previously been granted permission by Pepsi to grow the spuds on a buyback scheme. However, the firm’s temper fizzed over after they discovered that Gujarati farmers were allegedly growing them without a license, therefore violating the firm’s statutory rights. PepsiCo is seeking damages in excess of $1 million from the growers.
Calling the case a “very serious issue,” Kapil Shah of the Jatan Trust advocacy group said farmers were being sued “to intimidate them” and could be used by other seed and food corporations to bully others in future. He added that the farmers may have unwittingly sowed the crops from locally-sourced farm-saved seed and alleged they were victims of a sting operation organized by Pepsi, where hired private investigators posed as potential buyers in order to gain video footage and access to samples for further testing.

Thanks @alienteck for writing this post. Even I was not aware that PepsiCo used genetically modified potato for lays chips production. Now same company is trying to harass farmers.
Note: I will boycott lays and PepsiCo product from now on (I don’t drink any cool drink or other packaged beverage).
Legally speaking Pepsi has right to sue the farmers for breaking their contract and as a future deterrent.. but It shows how their business works.
If this gets enough public attention then Pepsi could be facing serious PR issue.But as a MNC that’s what they are supposed to do. Otherwise soon other contractual farmers might start to do the same.
I’m most interested in what our courts have to say here.
I am more interesting to know how long it will take to grow an extra eye on the back of the head after eating this GMO stuff.. 
I had stopped eating lays chips since I grew frustated when they began to fill 90% of the packet with air! And ate only local potato chips from the neighbourhood bakery.
Also I wish Indians stopped consuming peps, fanta and coca cola as they’re nothing but pure health hazards. Drink coconut water, sugarcane juice, etc as they’re not only delicious and health friendly but also one can directly support our small scale farmers/self employees.
P.S. I have nothing against MNCs but I loathe those who infringed our health and bully local farmers/sellers.
well lets be honest buddy. MNC are here to make money and to do that they will go to any length. Cigarette companies did everything they can to keep people in dark for decades. They staged paid research which indicated their product is harmless, spent million on PR and advertising and used nicotine in such fine amount which will make people addicted.
Note: you should have everything against MNC. these pepsi and cola companies are selling nothing but sweet poison.

I was doing editing on a paper on public health, people who eat meat gets all kinds of diseases, people who are vegetarians also get all kinds of diseases.. Just different ones.. So it seems not eating is whats needed for a long healthy life..
Excess is what causes sudden death.
Microwaving food also causes problems similar to this.. Do not use a microwave to cook food, only to heat it.

Even though I do acknowledge PepsiCo’s legal rights over its patented potatoes, I really don’t like it. Crops or water shouldn’t be controlled in the hands of a few giant industries and suing farmers is like Goliath against David. This is a dangerous trend in the long term. Corporations are gathering too much power every year, especially the MNCs.
While we are on this subject, when will America stop subsidizing corn and turning the entire country into a desert? General farming and rotational farming are the most important for protecting soil.

Balaji is hard to find outside GUJRAT specially in North sector.
And forgot railway stations , they only sells that cheap product (can’t remember name) which ad is of salman Khan and same quantity at 15rs. Which we get in 10rs. In Balaji
