Hello Dear Dimers ,
Hope You Guys are having a good time. I have been in this community since a long time and now the time has come when i have to set up a business for my living as one cannot depend on earning through online deals and loots for the entire life.
So , I thought of opening up a tours and travels office in my locality for flights , hotels , railways , buses , etc bookings but what’s happening is keeping me away in opening up a tourism office.
These days , many people are providing exceptional discounts on hotels and flight due to which i am not able to get a single customer. They say that the rates are way too high. I don’t know what to do ahead as I have taken airline agency of many airlines already and invested a lot of amount already.
I wish if any one of this big community can help me out with the process to get the discounts in order to serve my customers with good rates. Your help will create a big difference in my life.
If anyone has ideas or tricks or deals and hidden coupons , i request you guys to kindly come forward and help me out as this is why we all are here , to help each other grow.
I do not have any online clients , all my income comes through offline customers , so you will never be affected but i will earn something in return.
Even if anyone wishes to trade for these tricks , I will pay for it if required. Otherwise , wise help will be highly appreciated.

its a small city.. not that big like kolkata , delhi , etc
ok then try to add on someother business according to ur locality. like mobile accessories, recharging, data entry, stationary, learn some android mobile repairing, mobile flash, roms, etc, etc.. check ur locality and do a add on
That i will do later on i have thought of it but the thing is right now i need to concentrate on my main business that is flights hotels etc
That’s a tricky situation. I always keep wondering how people go for travel agencies when they can get better prices online but always fail to understand. A few of my friends and relatives are related to such domain too and from the little I understand this is what I perceive.
Most such businesses are driven by corporate clients where the process is more official and happens in bulk, you as an Individual working in a company can’t plan your official travel, it happens from the company directly. All these good offers online serve only for one person due to usage restrictions so these corporates have to rely on a travel partner for all the travel bookings.
Find a niche! A friend of mine runs a travel company that specifically cater to school trips, i.e. holiday trips that schools plan for each class. They specialise with this and have a set of some reputed schools that give them business each year.
1. Not everyone is in the online world. In fact people in the online world are way lower.
2. Since they are not in the online world, they are unaware of the competitive prices.
3. People are lazy, disinterested to do online searching. It seems a lot of work, time and a chore specially for people not used to online world.
4. People just do not want to waste their time and energy in this work. They have better things to do in life.
5. In the case of travel, people want assured reservations. And they know no better person to give that, than a travel agent. At the end he is an “agent”, which comes with the inherent property of having deep contacts to make impossible things for you, possible.
So the requirement here is to add business clients to your company as suggested by several dimers. You can also try for arranging LTC trips of government officials. Visit banks, insurance companies, secretariat etc. for this.

They even offer you GST credit on all fares. I think this should help you with the special fares at least
I travel a lot these days. As per my observation, online travel portals have definitely dented the business of many travel agencies but there are lot of customers who still stick to good old method of booking the tickets offline.As @raghupro mentioned, even i use to wonder why people book tickets, hotels paying 30-50% extra over online fares. Many travelers especially the older generation folks are not comfortable booking tickets online.Then there is a lack of trust in sharing card/payment details to an online website. Not many are comfortable with that sort of thing.
I’m surprised that you are not able to find at least a few customers a day. I believe your lack of business might be attributed to other factors such as visibility, reputation etc etc. If you haven’t advertised your business yet, it’s about time you do so. local dish channels, pamphlets etc might serve the purpose of advertisement on a low budget. Another factor that effects the travel agency business is the “location”. If your travel agency is not located near a bus stand or main city center, it’s hard to get business. Loyalty also plays a major part in travel business. A loyal customer base needs to be built which happens in due course of time. I would also suggest you to hire an employee who has been around for a while in in travel business. Such " employees" might have lot of customer contacts which will benefit you.
As others have rightly mentioned, Travel agency business isn’t very lucrative and competition is fierce. You need to very innovative to survive in this business. Even airlines are pulling every trick up their sleeves to cut down on agent commission’s.
but this is digital india, offline sales will reduce for sure and more people will shift to online or relatives/young boy with mobile in home and help them to book tickets in mobile…
you have to create your own strategy then, somthing unique in your area.
