Apex institute for cancer research. But cancers are of various kinds, so depends how much they will be able to help. It’s overloaded hospital so getting proper attention and treatment will take time. People who have personally visited the hospital please reply to the OP. Wish your mother good health and lots of courage.

Yes, it is overloaded. Further go 3-4 person, I visited there b4 6-7 yrs. Long q every where. Keep some food with u sothat I can have same while waiting for your turn. Reach earlier. search specialist doctors b4 visiting there so it will be helpful as there r somany super specialist doctors r there.
If you have any financial problems then keep certificates from cast, localise leader etc with you.

Expect min waiting period is 2-3 hours and if u reach late then 6-7 hrs.

Try to reach there by 8 to 8.30 am

Take all medical reports from all doctors consulted. It is easier to get admission if the patient has been referred by doctors who did the initial investigation.
The reference can be as simple as a note on the consultation paper that patient should refer to Tata Memorial for further diagnosis.
The hospital provides cheap medical facilities including medicines and other surgical equipment used for operations.
Most of the staff and doctors are helpful.
They have several counters to ease the work load. So it doesn’t take so much time as mentored by others. The patients can get free/subsidized travel in train once you get that in writing from one of the counters designated for this. You don’t need special approach for this.
They are probably the best in India but do consider alternative medicine too, if possible.
I see a lot of posts on Facebook about some people offering medicine and curing even cancer, not sure how true.

Wanted to know about this reference thing. Someone from mumbai said that it is very important, but i dont know how i will get it from my local doctor. They ask me to get her treated here itself, but i dont think they r capable of doing it. I m from a small city in north karnataka.

Regarding alternative medicine i dont hv the time as the doctors r telling its an advanced stage.

If you are not local to Mumbai, getting cheap accommodation can be a bit difficult. Hotels are there but you know how much they charge. The hospital also has a tie up with several guest houses nearby for accommodation of the patient and relatives for pre and post admission of patient in hospital. If you are not able to get accommodation anywhere, ask them to help you find a room/bed in their guest houses. They even have a counter for this. Unfortunately most of these are always full due to sheer number of patients that flock from outside Mumbai. But it is always better to get this in writing on prescription or their letter pad. If not their own tie-up based guest houses, even third party guest houses also consider these written notes directly from hospital.

I went there in September 2015 with a friend of mine whose father had cancer. Don’t go by most of the negative comments on this thread. I recommend at least two people go with the patient. One of them may take care of running around to get things done and other can stay with patient.

Just spoke with my friend who I had gone with; this is what he told me:
1. Go to their online portal and register the patient for an OPD appointment. Once registered, you’ll get an appointment Date on which the patient needs to visit hospital.
2. Go to the hospital OPD on that date. They will make a patient file after paying requisite fees etc. Doctor will examine the patient and prescribe some tests based on ailment.
3. Based on test results, the doctor will decide if admission is required or not, whether an operation will be performed etc. Accordingly, he will give you next date on which the patient will be admitted to hospital, usually a day or two before the operation date.
4. The patient needs to go on that date and get admitted. Admission formalities you can ask anyone at the hospital. Not a big deal.

Note: You don’t need a reference or anything from any doctor. You don’t even need any previous diagnosis reports. On a personal note, I feel there is no harm if you carry the initial diagnosis reports along.

When you visit TATA first time, go to their Railway counter and fill the form for free travel of patient in Indian Railways. The patient gets Completely Free travel and one attendant gets 50% off in 3rd AC coach. This is only if you wish to travel by train.

If you don’t have relatives to accommodate your stay in Mumbai, you may have to book a hotel nearby for a day or two initially when you visit OPD and get all tests done. Dadar is the nearest railway station to hospital I think. You get shared taxis there for Rs 10 per passenger. If you don’t wish to share a taxi, the entire taxi fare will be around Rs 40 – 50 max. The hospital isn’t far away.

Don’t panic much about what will happen once you reach there. What will be the procedure etc and so on. In OPD, you’ll find a lot of fellow patients and their attendants who will answer all your questions. Just ask anybody.

I feel for the op and his mother and hope she gets out of the trouble soon. But expecting so called modern medicine can only help and not any other medicine for cancer is stupidiest statement IMO.

Also I am assuming doctor treating ops mother through any therapy to be honest and well experienced even if its of Ayurveda or anything else. I am not saying Ayurveda is good or homeopathy is good so u can go to any doctor.

I am engineer. So medical professionals may and can justify benefits of their treatment which I may be lacking.

‘Also modern medicine is the only option’ this image is also created by marketing and lobbying. Its not based on the fact.

There are no side effects of ayurvedic medicines so u can eat any medicine is also wrong marketed concept. If the treatment is right they would be good. Now a days people buy ayurvedic drugs over the counter without consulting the professional and come up with side effects.

And there have been multiple cases where pharma companies intentionally hide side effects and facts about medicine even knowing bringing them to notice. Just for the sake of selling their product I.e. drug. Then later on sued and fined heavily.

Dr. Hedge is so senior that he must seen so called modern medicine industry inside out. And telling truth to people which is against the same industry he worked in obviously gonna make his colleagues mad. Its not surprise.

Also its not only Dr. Hegde who is talking about how modern medical industry works. Its been talked abroad as well by highly qualified doctors only.

If someone likes to keep eyes closed from the facts, he is free to do so. I don’t have any problem. I will just suggest them not to misguide others saying don’t go with ayurved etc.
