PROBLEM !!! :( Given Name vs Surname (or Last Name) : Passport Applications in India

but i m not getting this.

why to keep these difficult and confusing names

just a thought, please do not keep first name or family name blank, if there is even a fractional percent chance of you going abroad.
In places like USA colleagues had the most horrendous time with simple stuff like DMV / driving license.

Best is to check with them directly on 18002581800. Their FAQs do mention your issue in a way [questions 50 to 54 are of use to you].

Unless you are some Govt. employee I think minor tinkering of your name on passport can happen without issuing any gazette notification or affidavit.

Best is the second option from your list I think.

What is the name that appears in your 10th class certificate…. That would have First name, Middle Name and Surname

Can you please look carefully in it?

Rather you need to decide how you want to be known in legal documents once for all and then use that in the passport application and all other places…… do not go with multiple names….. u may end up in trouble…… when you would not be able to produce 2 documents having same name…… your Visa may get rejected and you may be denied entry at Port of Entry ( for sure in US and Europe).

Rest is your call.

If ur surname is not Gupta then do not put that……. Kumar Gaurav Gupta is not same as Kumar Gaurav.

GIVEN NAME—— KUMAR
SURANME—— GAURAV

Sometimes ur VISA might get stuck for ridiculous reason such as this.

BTW Kumar is also a valid name, so dont be confused, Ask your dad why he chose Kumar Gaurav vs Gaurav Kr.

Middle blank
Last Kumar

name should be as per documents being provided

SURNAME : GAURAV

will dere be any problem in future ?

My name is KUMAR GAURAV in all certificates, driving license, aadhar, pan etc.

i have seen many people with such name. like KUMAR VISHWASH – AAP leader. and many south indian people start their name with KUMAR.

Bro, forget everything. decide what name you want in future,.. < you’re NAME > < father name > < SURNAME >

And then make an affidavit stating that you want to change you’re name permanently, and apply for notary in sessions court. you’re name will be changed in every govt. records, & in future you can use it same pattern name every where. for more information/consultancy, contact any lawyer/advocate. he will help you short out this problem & will come up with solution for you’re passport filling too.. All the best.

Dude no one gives a rat’s ass whether you first name is Kumar or Gaurav. as long as you Follow what is written in your certificates.

if it does not match then you will require affidavits/ justifications etc etc.

very true. @ OP rather take profession help than this generic chit-chat.
I mean if you can decide for other things about your life [like companionship/ partner] you must MUST really know what name you want.

It would be odd if Manoj Kumar Akshay Kumar are known like that instead of Muhammad Yusuf Khan, Rajeev Hari Om Bhatia.

now even women are not permitted to go on changing names unendingly; as per Indian Law.

Whenever i feel helpless i just take help from the member of desidime, and in last 2-3 year they have solved all my problem related to buying stuff, education query , gadget problem etc!!

There are so many people like me in this country with such names, and many people have only one name.

Now i have decided to write GAURAV as surname, i have no other option, after 3-4 year i will change my name by adding GUPTA.
