Add a line on top left corner and make the first ‘+’ sign as 4

Now 5 4 5 + 5 = 550

LHS = RHS https://cdn1.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_smile.gif

*1. A bottle fully contains honey. The honey bottle weighed 1.5kg. Then the bottle was weighed with half of the honey, it was 900 grams. Now guess what would be the weight of the bottle?

2. Jennifer arranged for a party and had a basket full of strawberries. She ate 5 strawberries before the party and gave a friend 3. Eight girls came to the party. First girl took one strawberry, second one took three strawberries, third took five strawberries and so on. The basket was empty after the last person took hers. 1st Answer
=====
Let the bottle weight be x
Let the honey weight be y
The weight of the bottle with honey is 1.5kg
Therefore x + y = 1500 grams – (1)
Then the weight of the bottle with half of the honey is 900 grams
Therefore x + (y/2) = 900 grams
That is 2x + y = 1800 – (2)
Solving the first and second equation
2x + y = 1800
x + y = 1500
-—————
x = 300
Therefore the weight of the bottle is 300 grams.

2nd Answer
======
First Jennifer ate 5, gave her friend 3.
Eight girls took in odd digit order as 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, 13, 15. So totally, 5 + 3 + 1 + 3 + 5 + 7 + 9 + 11 + 13 + 15 = 72.
Finally Jennifer had 72 strawberries.

To all the Gold Coin Lovers of DD https://cdn3.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_wink.gif

I have 10 bags of gold coins, each coin weighing 2 grams and each bag containing 10 coins.

Of these 10 bags, one bag has coins of only 1 gram each.

I now give you a super duper electronic scale which can measure weight accurately all the way upto the 100th decimal.

Now using exactly just one weighing, find out the bag which contains the coins of lesser weight !!!

If you already know the solution , please wait for someone to work it out before shooting it. You can also PM me and I will publish the list when the final solution is posted

I didn’t know the solution before.

But I think it would be this way:
Label the bags with numbers 1 to 10
Take 1 coin from 1st bag.
2 from 2nd bag.
3 from 3rd bag
… ….
… ….
9 coins from 9th bag.
10 from 10th bag.

Now you will have total 55 coins.
Weigh them.
Suppose the weight is ‘X’

(110 minus X) is the number of bag which had coins of lesser weight

PS: For this you don’t need a super duper electronic scale which can measure weight accurately all the way upto the 100th decimal. A weighing machine with an error of less than +/- 0.5 grams would be fine. https://cdn3.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_lol.gif

If you really came up with this solution… thats terrific https://cdn3.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_cool.gif

After seeing all the commotion on weighing gold, I thought i would rather provide one super duper scale https://cdn2.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_toungueout.gif

@Ponds: In the same scenario as your question, if i allow you to use the weighing machine twice, then what is the minimum number of coins that you need to weigh to be assured that you’ll find the bag with coins of lesser weight?

I would do the same..Number the bags 1-10

Pick one coin each from bags 1-5 and weigh them. If it weighs 10gms, then bags 6-10 is the culprit or else bags 1-5 is the culprit.

Now pick up the culprit set and rename them 1-5

Take it

1 coin from 1
2 coins from 2
3 coins from 3
4 coins from 4.

Weigh them, if they are 20 gms, bag 5 has the one with lesser weight, else 20 – weight would give you the culprit bag.

I have weighed 5 + 10 = 15 coins here..

Let me know if this is right ?
