Redmi 1S – running Android 4.4.4 – Amazon not allowing many quiz and contests on this version.
Any one tried to install Kitkat or Marshmallow and running very stable. Kindly suggest me the links for step by step upgradation.

try XDA forums
there are many guides and stable roms [Marshmallow or lollipop or even nougat]
If you prefer MIUI, then you are stuck with Kitkat
