i think lagging is not a problem. we can turn off animations & bloatware can be disabled for smooth experience even in 2gb ram. right?

It’s For Your Dad I Don’t Think He Will Use So Many Apps And Play Games than no chance of lagging too much , So At 4000rs Redmi 7A is best U Will Not Find Any Other Good Option At That Price.

In this case, 7A is an overkill. Redmi Go 1/8 gb is more than sufficient

Go for 7a then. I’m using 7a for over 4 months. The only con is that charging is slow. I have over 30 apps installed other than factory, still 1gb is always free out of 2gb. I don’t play games or record videos or click photos. So 2/16 is more than sufficient. Otherwise you can consider 32gb as well. It comes with a dedicated card slot also.
You can ask if you have any specific questions. If you are from Delhi, you can come to my home and use the phone for an hour or two and explore for yourself.

Laggy part depends on usage, it’s not a universal truth. I have7A 2/16. With the current set of apps I have, I can challenge you to hang my phone. If you can, I’ll give it to you for free.

But paytm app uses ~200-300mb ram depending on browsed section.Phonepe app ram usage is also increasing compared to older versions.Getting 2gb ram phone nowadays is a bit risky but nothing serious as the worst you will face will be refreshing of app.

Well cocay might be using very basic apps and/or 1-2 app at the most simultaneously. Or maybe accustomed to app/tab reload so that he doesn’t notice it anymore. My dad uses 2GB Redmi 3s running barebones LOS 15.1 and at boot 0.9-1.1GB is used up by the OS and System leaving only 0.9GB available to the user. Despite 500MB ZRAM ( mostly 90% used up, higher values didn’t make any difference, MIUI has it at 768MB ) hardly 3-5 apps in memory. Open a few tabs and… background app reloads. Using BitGApps which is very light compared to even OpenGapps Pico. No Google apps will result in upto 200MB RAM savings but not practical.
In short 3GB is the bare minimum if running AOSP alongside ZRAM/ZSWAP. MIUI and other heavy OEM skins demand 4GB for even a semblance of actual multi-tasking. Even on my 6GB Poco F1 running crDroid, tab reloads aren’t uncommon.
KitKat and earlier can get away with 2GB with ease though.

Whether I open the first app or the 15th, it takes the same time to load. I don’t see any difference in performance whether there is just 1 or 15 applications listed in memory. My dad is using Honor 5c, 2/16, marshmellow since 2.5 years and has never complained of anything. He has all sorts of news apps installed, watches YouTube, plays card games occasionally. His phone is much more loaded than mine still no complaint.

For me, compactness plus performance plays the biggest role when choosing a phone. This phone strikes a balance between both considering the price as well

Redmi mobiles needs some tricky tweak settings by the user to make it lag free since miui apps and ads service will load all the way in background, so why this issue in all phones. If it is properly tuned then its its good one.

No tweaking necessary. Just install Blockada and say goodbye to ads everywhere. Not just in browsers but also apps. Root not required. Although crappy MIUI tended to unload it. Don’t remember if it had been fixed after whitelisting it under Battery Optimization in MIUI. Free and Open Source.

I think blockada is just a Dns changer cum VPN and not a adblocker.. how come it block ads ?

It does block ads. I wouldn’t have mentioned it otherwise.
Google obviously doesn’t want users to block ads. So the one on PS is w/o ad blocking functionality. You need to download it from the official site.

Thanks for the suggestion bro.. let me try ! Having some hesitation over downloading apps from unknown source, but I hope it should not contain any malicious codes inside being a open source project.
