If you are mainly worried about after sales service, go for Samsung J5 or J7 (new 2016 version) or any other brand devices.

You can troll MI but you also have to accept the fact that no other smartphone manufacturer can provide SD650 chipset phone at this rock bottom price.

We should also accept the fact that companies like Mi started the hit-and-go trend. Who keeps these phones for more than a year? (Well, exceptions may be there. That’s different.) https://cdn2.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_smile.gif

Not necessarily cuz if performance is your concern, SD650 will be very much relevant even 2-3 years down the line. For substantiation the SD 800 released in 2013 still delivers higher single-threaded perf(plus much higher sustained peaks) than last years favourite mid-ranger, the MTK Helio X10. And SD650 sports Cortex A72 which indeed are flagship-grade. Just that Qualcomm chose to cripple them by clocking at only 1.8GHz and on 2 gen. old 28nm process, in order to show its homegrown Kryo cores (SD820) in a better light as the former was uncomfortably close. Huawei’s Kirin 955@...Hz on 16nm process shows how potent A72 actually is. The GPU might
not fare as well though esp. with VR & AR finally bearing fruition. But then again they target a vastly higher price segment…
If its updates Xiaomi has a pretty decent record, albeit a bit slow . Even the Mi3 is slated to taste Marshmallow. And before the locked bootloader fiasco, they
enjoyed pretty solid community support. Network connectivity wise, it supports the all-important LTE Band 5.
Thanks to the huge 4000mAH battery it should chug along for quite some time before a replacement is needed.
Global smartphone growth is slowing down as people hold onto their phones for longer periods. The explosive growth in performance and features witnessed over the last several years is drawing to a close..

The first half just went over my head. https://cdn2.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_toungueout.gif

I knew someone would bring Mi3 in. I had exactly this in mind when I wrote about the “exceptions”. I have heard Mi3 is a good all-rounder. But it’s not just about Mi. They are just a precursor to an array of Chinese or otherwise brands who concentrated more on performance than fidelity and durability.

Used Redmi 1S for around 6 months. It was stunning in terms of display, performance (for the price tag) etc. but had many other issues like overheating, automatic shut down etc. A friend had to go without a mobile for over a month because of lack in number of Mi service centers. Moreover, these players have not established themselves as brands with good after sales support which in itself shows that they are just promoting the hit-and-go trend. I don’t say they alone are the reason for it. A mobile is not just a device for calling anymore and so, this is bound to happen. Anyway, thanks for your insightful post (though I couldn’t understand half of it). https://cdn2.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_smile.gif

@Magus Yes after-sales services are, politely speaking, shitty. But their low price somewhat takes care of that. I mean one can buy FOUR Redmi Note 3 for the price of ONE Sony Xperia X(very similar specs including SD650) launched today. As a very wise man once said “there are no bad products, only bad prices”
P.S. All said and done I will most probably forego the RN3 in favour of Oneplus 3 due to software issues. I mean near-stock Android in the latter should pose less problems, right?
Besides Oneplus just announced a bunch of Exclusive Service Centers.
P.P.S. I am still struggling through a ~6 year old Symbian phone!

@Magus Mi established 70+ service centers since they stepped in Indian market 2 years ago.Let’s give them some time to settle down. You can’t compare their after sales services with companies that are operating in India from ages.MI also offer facilities like pickup and drop, one time screen replacement at nominal prices.I myself using Redmi 1s from the time it had launched in India but never faced issues you have mentioned. On the positive note MI also promised MM based MiUi 8 update to it.Upto Mi4 all was well in MI but dunno what happened with Mi5.Mi5 has flagship specs but it’s buggy software does not do justice with the hardware.Hope further software updates will improve it’s performance.
