Reliance CDMA and 4G Migration Woes

I’m from Reliance Kolkata CDMA Circle. CDMA service stopped on 24th May .. Now I’ve one ages old Reliance CDMA phone [ Nokia 2112 ] – 10 years and still kicking https://cdn1.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_biggrin.gif

It has In built / Non removable SIM card or It’s a Operator locked phone. Anyway, you can’t put a sim card into this phone. Now I’m not getting any CDMA signal and I want to migrate to reliance 4G. So how am I suppose to keep my number and migrate to 4g ? Because as per Reliance website you need to SMS the 4G sims serial number from your existing CDMA phone :

Reliance Mobile Prepaid

Recharge your existing CDMA connection with the 4G upgrade recharge. To know the upgrade recharge value please click here .

After recharging, from your existing CDMA SIM, SMS 4G < space > 19 digit SIM number of the new 4G SIM to 1299.

Alternatively, you can also call on 1299 from your CDMA mobile and enter your new 19-digit 4G SIM number. You will get a confirmation SMS about your 4G SIM upgrade.

http://www.rcom.co.in/Rcom/personal/4G/4G_overv...

but if I don’t get network coverage on CDMA phone how am I suppose to send the SMS for migration or even contact reliance CC ?

Anyone has any clue ??

I think similar issues are being faced by several states users.
They have taking too much time to launch… they should have handled it in better way https://cdn3.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_sad.gif

You were supposed to do it before shut down of CDMA. They have been sending SMS alerts for the same since Apr16 begining.
Agree that Rcom did not properly advertise or issue guidelines early.
Contact Reliance World and tell them your mob number(RCDMA) they get all the details from system including SIM serial number.
Make it fast.

I am feeling like deactivating the ongoing 4G upgrade process
Even though CDMA shutsdown in AP, it should be there in KA but i am not sure how they are closing down connections like if its based on the sim region or on the current network location
and they are not actually upgrading to 4G as of now

Thank you all for the replies .. will try to visit nearest webstore .. also I’ve sent e-mails to Reliance nodal officials but did not receive any reply.
One more thing before shutting down network which is a major step Reliance should at-least intimate users about the same I mean the final date from which CDMA won’t work anymore … got a very generic message like all the CDMA users will be upgraded to 4G but there was no mention of a final date or anything so I thought before shutting down network Reliance will let the users know about the final date but they did not. Anyway, looks like need to travel a bit here and there.

@M.MAHI – if there’s no other way I might.

@hackerboys – this is a operator locked phone with no sim card or at-least non accessible by a user. This phone is over 10 years old.

@theloot – If I can’t get a hold of a Reliance 4G sim I shall port out but as of now I don’t want to.

RCDMA network working fine in Kolkata till date. There is so far no final date of closure given. Mumbai and Delhi will stop on 31st.
However, they did something over the network on 24th that fried up one of my basic handset. The SIM is working fine with other handsets but that handset is not connecting to signal.
Webworld can migrate you even without working SIM. You will need to furnish KYC afresh.

Reliance Communications to switch off CDMA in 17 circles soon

Reliance Communications said it will switch off CDMA in most of its circles in June, and in some of the circles, as early as today.

Except for four circles — Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka — RCom has set the ball in motion to migrate its CDMA subscribers on to its GSM network.

The company said it was “over enthused” by the response from its CDMA customers, who it said were keen on the migration.

“The process is going on very very smoothly and we are very enthused,” officials said today after giving an update about the company’s quarterly performance.

They said their top priority was to ensure that the most profitable customers — who generate big bills by using a lot of data or voice — are retained as part of the migration. RCom has been offering a 70% discount on 4G dongle prices to its most lucrative customers as part of the migration.

Those subscribers who do not want to remain with RCom can opt for any other operator by relying on mobile number portability, company officials said.

COMPLAINTS

On complaints about switch off of the CDMA network, RCom said its license requires the company to inform its subscribers thirty days in advance before it switches off its network or migrates to a new technology.

RCom said it informed its subscribers in early April, and since the complete shut down of CDMA in 17 circles will happen only by end of June in most places, many subscribers have got 60 days of advance notice.

REMAINING CIRCLES

RCom said in the remaining 4 circles — Kerala, Karnataka, Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu — it will start the process of moving subscribers from CDMA to 4G today. Approval for the same was received on May 3, and the company has paid Rs 1,243 cr and furnished a bank guarantee of Rs 430 cr to the DoT, it said.

By end of day today, RCom said it expects to get the liberalization order from the Department of Telecom converting its CDMA spectrum to 4G spectrum in these four circles with immediate effect.

Within another 45 days, it will complete its sharing and swapping deals with Reliance Jio, which will lead to the creation of a single 4G network co-owned by Jio and RCom. In 17 circles, that process is well on its way and will be completed in June itself.

RCom, however, said it will not offer 4G services to its GSM subscribers before Jio’s commercial launch. Reliance Jio, controlled by Mukesh Ambani — brother of RCom promoter Anil — is in the final phases of testing its network and is currently on beta testing.

Once Jio launches its services commercially, RCom will come out with new tariff plans for bringing 4G subscribers on board, including those of its 2G and 3G subscribers who want to take advantage of the new network.

RCom said it and Jio will have the same radio infrastructure, including the base station (eNodeB), but will not share the core network. At the traffic aggregation point, traffic coming from RCom subscribers will be diverted to RCom’s fiber network, while those from Jio’s subscribers will continue on Jio’s core network.

In addition, for all RCom 4G subscribers, voice service will be provided by RCom’s 2G and 3G networks where available.

AIRCEL, MTS DEAL

RCom also said that it will not be extending talks with Aircel shareholders any more, and a final announcement will be made before June 22.

Barring any unfortunate circumstances, the deal is expected to go through.

The addition of Aircel’s wireless capabilities to RCom will increase the Anil Ambani company’s competitiveness with respect to bigger competitors like Bharti Airtel, Idea Cellular and Reliance Jio.

RCom said it expects to complete the integration and merger of its operations with those of MTS India by August.

It also clarified that it will divert MTS’ spectrum towards the combined 4G network being built with the help of Jio, implying that CDMA subscribers of MTS will also be migrated to 4G.

After the integration of MTS, the combined Jio-RCom 800 MHz network will have 10MHz of spectrum in 11 circles, 8.75 MHz in 7 circles and 5-6.25 MHz in the remaining areas, it said.

Now relaince has started Web migration for those with non sim based mobiles and those who couldn’t migrate before the network shutdown. Visit relaince site for more details. You need to get sim from relaince store for that.

If you are getting it free then you can take it. But if you are buying from someone then its better to buy jio sim.

Jio has most common 4g bands and most mobiles support that. While for rcom there are very few mobiles that supports band 5. Also there is news that rcom may start 4g only after jio full commercial launch.

It’s up to you. If you have 4g phone that supports band 5(850Mhz). Then you can buy.

And main thing there is no official confirmation when we get 10 gb data. If there is not rcom 3g in your circle then you have to use 2g only until they launch their own 4g.

If you are in hurry then you can buy jio 4g unlimited with lyf mobile.(You have to purchase lyf mobile) and if not in hurry then you can wait for full 4g launch.

Yes, there is clearly mentioned 4g LTE that’s because it’s 4g sim, like 3g printed on 3g sim, no way it’s related to data.

I am telling that you will surely get data but there is no official confirmation about timings that when you will get 10gb data.(it may take 2 days, 1 week, 1 month or may be 6 months) and by that time you might get similar deal from other 4g providers like jio.

Check above comments: http://www.desidime.com/forums/dost-and-dimes/t...

If you are ready to wait some unknown time then 120 rs for 10gb 4g is not a bad deal. Go for it.

Rcom promised lot of things… Rs 100/- talk time, 10GB data and Unlimited R2R call. Only talk time received. No data bundle. No one knows when they will start their services by the time, people will forget to use that sim card and it will be lapsed.

What about the locked instrument or open instrument that is creating huge e-wastage? He is not compensating with a decent offer…

And our regulators are puppets in their hands…

migration cost is Re.1. SIM is free. If you get SIM with pkt date of 04/2016, data may not work. You will need to have the SIM uploaded with a patch from the webstore to get data working.
No 4G netowok. SIM will latch to existing RCom GSM network, 3G or 2G as available in the city. If you are already registered with Myservices, in myservices summary status will change from Mobile-postpaid/Mobile-prepaid to LTE4G_POSTPAID/LTE4G_PREPAID after migration. New SIM will work only after status changes. Right now no recharge seems to be working for migrated prepaid numbers.

In my case, one of my numbers is from Delhi Circle. I am presently on roaming in Kolkata. Sent migration request on 30th May. Kolkata network went down on 31st night. But new SIM was not activated. So complete loss of service. Had to send email to nodal officer to have it finally activated on 4th June.

Recharged a Migrated LTE SIM with 53 roaming voucher via mobikwik. It worked and got STV activation confirmation SMS from RCOM. So old CDMA recharge values may work.
