Not compulsary, but target based system. So they force you to buy it. I avoided that after contacting the branch manager.

Exactly. But many would feel awkward to go to the manager for a matter of just 100 or 200 bucks a year and so, it’s almost compulsory.

Yes, even PSU banks following the policy adopted by private banks. Rs. 100/200 is small amount for many, but for poor people it is a considerable amount. And they neither know that is optional nor do have the courage to complain.
When did you opened your SBI account? (Month + year)

Yes. They aren’t even courteous enough to explain it to us and ask if we are interested or suggest it as an option. They simply hand over the insurance form along with account opening form. When I asked the CO if it was mandatory, he said yes. I thought 200 p.a. was not a big deal and so didn’t make a fuss.

The person assigned the role of opening new account simply refuses to accept the form unless you fill that insurance form.

no idea bro
WTF!!! no one can force to take the optional services!!!
if anyone forces then ask them on letter & simply raise this to RBI Ombudsman.
bro @Magus
if its not worth then whats the point of having it? ex. like if u are already covered and all / not useful at all / not even worth 100 bucks.
point is every hard earned penny we spent should be worth on the services we avail.
its better to donate those hard earned 100 bucks to a charity where it has huge value rather than over here.
@aswaniexpress bro simple raise a dispute and it will get resolved.
guys, time to raise voices. dont take NO for an answer. this is really BS of sbi.

Can someone tell me if there is any yearly charges for basic debit card? I’m referring to Axis bank here. I was going through my statement and it seems like Axis has been slapping some 200 rs fees as yearly debit card charges. Other than this, They are also charging a few bucks every quarter under the pretext of " Consolidated account charges" . My primary account is with Citibank and i have never been charged any fees related to my account or debit card.
@aswaniexpress Sorry for the off-topic query in your thread.

Come on, man. As much as I love to be truthful, I’m not one who is ignorant of the harsh realities of life. They need to run their business as well. When sectors like India Post, which are fundamentally service-oriented, could harass their customers to take insurance policies in the name of expansion, expecting SBI to be customer-centered is asking for too much. The branch had only been two days old when I went there to open my account. They were running after a target of their own to please their superiors and justify their existence as a separate branch. So, I thought it’s not a big deal since I don’t have any other IPs in my name. Supposing I will live for 40 years from the date of opening the account, I’m paying an amount of Rs.8000 for a policy which covers me for 2 lakhs. That’s not too bad, is it?

Nothing comes free these days. Citibank is most generous in term of charges levied, most of the services are free or very reasonably priced.

Hasn’t ICICI raised charges to Rs. 150+ST like HDFC and Axis? SBI Global debit card also charged at Rs. 150+taxes

For normal account it is 150+St. Will have to check for basic account.

Thanks!
Yes Citi is indeed very generous when it comes to charges. But Citi also has dubious distinction of cherry picking their customer’s. Although i don’t need to maintain any monthly/quarterly charges but i’m aware that Citi has a very high average monthly minimum balance limit.

8000 rs for 2 yrs policy. Is it for term insurance or health insurance ?
It could be the registration under the new government insurance scheme, I forget what it’s called.
