I am curious about some of the questions related to traffic rules and would appreciate someone to enlighten me with correct web links if possible.

1….can traffic policeman fine or challan on locality roads?…I mean never heard or seen but for past some days some policeman are randomly checking the documents and harassing young boys on activa or bike because of helmet or rc or license. Please elaborate both cases traffic policeman and local policeman.

2…is there any new rule which prohibit more than 4 passengers in a car?….if yes then what’s the status of children?
3…same question on two wheelers…..status of children….i mean can someone ride with wife and young child?
4….is seat belt mandatory for passengers sitting on the rear seat?
5…is there any change in ola or uber sitting scheme regarding max 4 person?….if yes then again what’s the scenario of young child?
6…last but not the least….has any vehicle ever failed pollution test?..I mean never heard or seen anyone failing pollution test….100 rs note is very powerful in neglecting all emission norms.

Wearing Sandals-Chappals on two-wheelers

Riding a two-wheeler with gears, wearing sandals or chappals, is prohibited under the Motor Vehicles Act. This can warrant a fine of Rs 1,000. This rule existed before the amendments to the Motor Vehicle Act came into play. However, it is now being implemented strictly. The reason why wearing loose footwear is not allowed on two-wheelers with gears is that the same may cause difficulty in changing gears and can also cause a slip as a result of loss-of friction when stopping.

Carrying a child on a scooter/bike

Section 128 of the Motor Vehicles Act states that a two-wheeler rider is not allowed to carry more than one passenger in addition to himself and that person should be seated on a seat which is securely fixed to the said vehicle. This section, however, does not specify the case if a couple is riding a two-wheeler with a child. And hence, for now, traffic police is treating the child as a third passenger and hence can issue a challan of Rs 2,000 in this regard.
