PCI-E SSD M2 or NVME
Wrong title it should be PCI-E SSD M2 or NVME @admin pls fix and remove this line if you can
Need little help guys, during this festive season looking to uograde my MSI GL63 8RC with an PCIE SSD but confused with M2 or NVME. As i found there is vast speed difference as M2’s around 500mbps while NVME Gen3’s 3000mbps. Well my use of this gaming laptop is purely gaming and my games are performing decent with the 5200rpm HDD which came inbuilt. So just guide me will M2 be good as bootable drive with game installed on it or should i go for double priced NVME?
I am littile skeptical about NVME as in WD Black i found reviews stating it is getting hot but no such mentions for M2 sata WD Green and Blue.
Also if M2 will be good enough then is WD Green good ? Or need WD Blue only ?
Bonus help : Please suggest some 16gb pairs of DDR4 rams .

Get a Samsung m2 ssd that is enough for your laptop.
Are milliseconds important for you?? If yes then get nvme. Or buy m2 ABOVE 500gb with some dram shit (for cache)
m2 should be work fine. yes there is speed difference between m2 & nvme . If you have budget then go for nvme if not then m2 but yes ssd always bring loading and smooth gaming performance than traditional hdd
If your notebook has decent cooling go for M.2 NVMe. High-end ones tend to run pretty toasty. SATA ones don’t have this limitation. Even the Samsung 960/970 E ones aren’t immune to this issue. Most NVMe controllers are built on a 28nm process and hence tend to run hot esp. in case of long workloads exacerbated by poor cooling. Probably get one with a heatsink for marginally better cooling.
Edit: The Silicon Power P34A80 is only a tad slower than 970 Evo Plus but is priced very competitively at Rs 6349 for 512GB at Primeabgb. Well reviewed at Anandtech, Tom’s to name a few. I got this last month. Other than thermal throttling no issues. The one with heatsink ain’t available now in India.
For NVMe 512GB is the minimum if you care at all about performance.
You mean https://www.onlyssd.com/buy/silicon-power-512gb... ? Pls care to explain thermal throttling.
@AnnamalaiNryaa @P_A_N_K_A_J @Aveejeet suggest some if you have eyes on it.
For a Steam drive SATA is plenty sufficient. Even QLC will suffice but since TLC drives like Crucial MX500 are in some cases even cheaper than say the Samsung 860 QVO doesn’t make sense to get QLC unless price goes down drastically.
Get a M2 SSD. It will be more than enough for you. Be sure to get with enough storage to store games too, otherwise game loading screen will be longer.
Note: btw I have bought sata crucial 480 gb SSD. Working like charm.
which laptop? ur laptop supports nvme?
