i was wondering why various toll free calls are not connecting from my Airtel number but easily from Jio number.
today i came to know there are two category of toll free numbers
1. starting with 1800
these are free completely.
2. category is premium numbers used by various financial institution for phone banking / support
starting with 1860
Jio is not charging anything for dialing these numbers.
while airtel is charging 1 to 2rs per minute depending upon number.
these calls are usually long and you can end up paying a lot of money on Airtel.
kindly confirm other operator users.

1860 were never toll free numbers. They are chargeable at local rates. Only Jio is offering free calls to 1860.
This has been the case from very long time. All network providers except JIO charge for 1860 numbers. And if you may have observed, almost everyone has moved from 1800 to 1860. In case of 1800, the organisation has to bare the charges, but in case of 1860 it is passed on to individual customer. JIO operates calls over VOLTE (data), it doesn’t really matter much to them, every call is treated the same way.
Coming to ICICI, there is a method you can get away without these charges. You can initiate a customer call through imobile app, that will eventually lead you to call a mobile number which works with the usual unlimited plans.
all operators are now either on volte or claiming to be volte ready.
they atleast should not charge those who are on volte handsets.
Another similar case is SMS charges for Short codes (premium numbers like 567676). Other than jio all operators charge for this. Vodafone 3Rs, bsnl 1.5Rs, Airtel 3Rs
this is open loot by AVOID.
The real chor is the one who is misleading people. The IUC was to go away from 1st Jan. That means Jio was willing to bear the cost until then. If they were ethical, they should have started charging 6p/min from 1st Jan if it did not go away.
unethical includes
unwanted activation of paid services like caller tunes , English courses.
charging for sms services which are advertised free. special numbers.
minimum monthly recharge requirement.
For me it’s happening ulta Airtel connects call but Jio doesn’t

I appreciate what jio has done in telecom services… But jio is degrading day by day and airtel is improving.
Whatever 100rs extra airtel is charging now but they are providing great 4g speeds.

totally agree their 4g speeds is the reason i ported from bsnl to airtel . primary sim.
also use jio as back up. many times Airtel doesn’t work calls don’t connect. voice quality is low.

So true and i can personally relate to this topic with very recent example.
one of my upgraded Credit card was being delivered by blue dart and it was stuck somewhere and it was asking to call their cc for further steps. Now blue dart customer care is a 1860 series number- 1860 233 1234.
i unknowingly dialed from my airtel number and it charged 2.4 Rs per min and even call could not be completed as it was out of their support timing (after 9 pm).
so i sent mail to airtel and also tweeted the complaint and next day someone from airtel support calls me and repeats same “ghisa pita raddi dailogue” that these are premium nos so it will be chargeable.
i said when jio is not charging then why are you charging for this and that too 2.4 rs which is very high. this guy had no answer and said – main aapka feedback le leta hoon.
after 5 mins, i got email that as discussed on call your issue is resolved and they closed the ticket.
so stay away from airtel. Those who are so much in favour of these companies have forgotten how they used to loot 250 rs for 1 gb of data until jio came.
only reason i have airtel sim is due to the internet speeds as i have to work from home sometimes and need stable and fast internet.
aur waise jio bhi koi doodh ka dhula nahi hai but at least they introduced the affordable data and truly unlimited plans in indian market and now everyone has to follow.

Jio is giving it for free just to increase their market share + user database
Couple of days/months later they will bring back charges for 1860 series .. then everyone will start ranting (just like many do now post IUC)
PS: Opt for the network that has best network coverage (w/ minimal congestion) to your Flat/Room/Work place

Don’t know what will happen after 2 years but this iuc will cease to be in effect after 3 months. From January it will be a level playing field for all telecom players.
Every 1860 no has an alternative no like some landline no to call at. Like a no to call from abroad. Better dial that no. Remember these 1860 no for cos fwd to local landline nos according to rules set by these cos.
All this happened after rcom died. Prev rcom use to provide centralized landline no which can be dialed using local std codes.
I got hdfc msg to choose anyone from 500 big basket voucher or 500 big bazaar. For that i have to msg A or B to 53030. I can send msg from my Vodafone no but while sending through JIO, always getting message send failed. My registered no is JIO sim
You can also visit the link and select the voucher from their website. I used to do that. Not sure if it is SMS only now.
Chortel is chortel.Just no words if I don’t have enough balance I would leave chortel for sure .

ease of shopping/dining/payment/money transfer/ information/communication etc etc is because of data and not because of call.
where India in technology/it today is because of data. data is future not call.

The latest trend of iuc charges by jio is a very bad move jio will get downfall for that why jio is charging iuc and not avoid?
After reading all posts I get to the point that some people believe having a airtel no. is status symbol.
