Baba Ramdev used to come on TV years back and say what not about FMCG companies. people didn’t take it seriously till he stepped into FMCG segment after success in ayurvedic medicines.
Like his all out inconvenientional approach in tv commercials giving Colgate a challenge they never imagined. A perfect underdog case study for MBA marketing syllabus.

Buy Patanjali products even if they are slightly expensive. Its the only way to teach the foreign companies not to sell substandard products at high prices in India.
It will only lead to price reduction and quality improvement by all other manufacturers.

My mom likes their Atta and my sister, their Basmati Rice.

I didn’t like their mango fruit juice though. toungueout

Yet to try many other items. They should definitely be supported. smile

hey bro , how you missed their noodles lol lol
btw must try their dishwash bar , bcoz normal dishwash soap are harmful for body in case not cleaned on utensils .
also all products you mentioned were really good . also try their gonyle (floor cleaner) too .
and their ghee is best of packed ghee taste like real cow ghee .

however in ketchup , biscuit sugar content is high . and their milk biscuit have palm oil as ingredient .

so this underdog have to take care of these things , still it is becoming popular very rapidly and wiping out other MNCs badly .
even on local stores patanjali items are sold at no discount still people buys them .

The Patanjali toothpaste packing states its manufactured at 5 factories… impressive.
Tomato ketchup for 70/kg while its for 125 by Maggie (the market leader)

bro i think tomato ketchup of patanjali is 70rs for half kg (not 1 kg) in compare to 95rs of other brands . this ketchup should be good if sugar content reduced by them .

btw , i still remember taste of kissan ketchup and heinz ketchup in my childhood (10-11 yrs back) when tomato content was too high and taste was really genuine and natural . kissan was best of them , now tomato content only 25-27% and liquid glucose/sugar with too many preservatives .

This patanjali will not exist after 2019 bcoz their errors will be ignored till then by current govt

Yes….top companies from other countries dump goods in India…..

N this is the only way they will learn a lesson

But patanjali gets special treatment as its vote bank for current govt

Note : this is only my point of view

respect you view , but this is what made viral , and many more ridiculous news coming soon to defame this brand by MNCs .
bcoz to match quality they will need to spend high , and their main funda to earn is by distributing channel , quality is now no more their focus .
but patanjali getting special treatments , it is easily agreed by people bcoz of that right wing and saffron color theory .
but from common man point of view may be many of them dont like ramdev as a person so much , but this brand for their household is giving benefit , so why they will not prefer it .

and you said patanjali will be no more after 2019 and with their links with current govt , simple thing i got – you presumed 2 things that this govt will not come in 2019 for sure and congress/any other party will try to vanish patanjali just bcoz anti-congress .

by the way this thread main focus on patanjali vs MNCs quality in fmcg products .

I like ramdev baba as a person and his yoga teaching

I will support him for that

but at the moment this thing went into commercial it was over

what do you think….how did they setup manufacturing units?
how fast someone can lease factories and start producing fmcg goods or household things

it requires some time

but as its happening it indicates to me that there is huge involvement of 3rd party here and name is patanjali

I may be wrong but I m not fully wrong : )

btw patanjali did start manufacturing its items long back like digestive golis , honey , gulkand these are items which are too old , so it is not the current govt who did favor , in fact ramdev is not a poor person , he remained very well knowned yoga teacher for 2 decades and still he is , and he earned enough money from that . btw doubts can be cleared with answers but bcoz of just doubts never reach to conclusion , yes it can be accepted that current NDA govt is politer to ramdev than UPA , so thats not shocking , we still know ramleela maidan incident . now he is not under any pressure or fear .

but my main focus still on what benefit we can get from him , as he already awakened india with yoga which , in modernization , people did forgot , he is not inventor of yoga , he only created awareness . and now MNCs are getting lesson with tough competition from patanjali and even as you said they cant pressurize govt to take this brand down . so only option improve quality or be listed in indian history .

and for people who still dont know why patanjali named , patanjali was ancient time yoga guru , and ramdev did named his haridwar yogpeeth on his name then its became brand too for fmcg products .

Poor quality Patanjali Marie Biscuits
It is very disgusting to mention here that when I purchased Patanjali Marie Biscuits (Lot No.DZ/BN. Packed on April 2016) from the authorised patanjali distributor, I found from one of the packet that biscuits contained some black jute threads which is coming from the biscuits and also some small bits of finger nails like substance is coming out from the biscuits and the quality of the biscuits is very very poor and not baked properly.

I feel the quality and standards are not all maintained and I would advise the people to think twice before buying such biscuits.

Don’t know the real true story but i have heard from some genuine people who have knowledge about FMCG products that some of them might be true like more sugar content in ketchup etc but taking those points, the MNC’s are blowing them into big issues making people believe that it is quite harmful. A proper test has to be conducted to find the real % of content in each product. Right now, they are trying to expand as much as possible due to the good response they are getting from Public. People try it even for the curiosity to find out about the products.

Whatever it might be, it will take some time to rectify their errors. A simple example – Take the case of Colgate which when it arrived in India, Indians were using twigs of herbs (Neem) as tooth brush along with some rock salt. But they came & gave Colgate Powder saying that it was superior. Down the lane now, we see Colgate using our own ancient methods & present the new ad line “Aapke toothpaste mei namak hai??” evil

I would recommend People to use Desi Products mainly because of the fact that It will bring some good products & competitiveness. Also don’t forget that lesser the money flows out of our country via MNC, the higher will be the country’s growth as the money will remain within the country. People always complain about dollar price, petrol price, Indian Govt debt in World Bank etc. Some might say corrupt bureaucrats, politicians etc etc but the common man too contributes in a way, just find out the money being channeled out of India via MNC’s. Most of the daily used essentials unknown to us are of MNC company products. They were quite clever in naming their companies in Desi names too like Hindustan Unilever Ltd. Top other MNC’s which have quite a huge market are Nestle, Procter & Gamble, Glaxo Smith Kline (GSK), Pepsi Co, Coca Cola etc. But nowadays MNC’s have become clever, they are investing in Indian companies which have become popular and have gathered maximum shares/holdings & indirectly control the company.

Patanjali are growing at a good pace & i have been using most of their products like Ghee, Atta, detergent Powder, Dishwash bar, Soaps, Biscuits etc. Another notable mention in recent years is of ITC which after entering the FMCG industry has grown big with some notable products like Sunfeast range, Aashirvad & Bingo items. biggrin

Just try to find alternatives to some of the MNC products like instead of Colgate use Patanjali Toothpaste or Meswak or Dabur. Nowadays just google to find out the desi items & check product reviews to decide which is best. I am not forcing anyone to my point of view nor am i a employee of Patanjali. Just give it a thought is all i can say. smile

My parents have always used Indian Company products & Govt backed items (Nandini Milk, Safal Oil, Mysore Sandal Soap etc) as much as possible. Before the advent of online groceries, we always used to buy our groceries from Janatha Bazaar, I don’t know how many are aware about Janatha Bazaar but it was a State Govt run Grocery shop (In the 90’s era itself) where the products were placed in aisles just like you see in Big Bazaar, pick items & compare prices as there were several options, put the items in a cart & get it billed at billing counters. Also you used to get some discount on the products which was something great at that time as products like Rice, Wheat etc were priced quite reasonably.

I too feel the same about using Desi products & support my Parents views. I might not be able to contribute in a big way but as the saying goes “Little drops of water make a mighty ocean”.

Check these articles – https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Indian_FM...
http://companiesinindia.net...g/
http://sparksbay.com/2016/06/06/the-baba-e...t/

PS – To really get an idea, after buying the monthly groceries… separate the items into MNC products & Desi products. We will come to know how much each one of us are contributing to the growth of the Nation & how much is being channeled out of our country. wink

I would always support the Indian brands and I am happy to see the way ITC, Dabur and Patanjali are growing. I wish Patanjali focuses more on quality, not just on competition because I can see they are getting a great response from the market and a better quality control will help them to beat the competition. smile

ITC is very much aggressive in the FMCG business now and I am sure soon they will beat HUL. ITC have recently come up with a new strategy to capture more market and venture into new lines of FMCG products. smile

The foreigners who came with these MNC’s coined tge wird India is a very price sensitive market. So has been etched in every Indians brain by the advt. gurus even before tv cane in India. Irony is its a slap on our face as a part of the British colonial era Ebtire world is quality sensitive except India? that doesn’t fit logic.
This non MNC brand has proved it wrong.
ITC had no choice but to diversify from its tobacco business or face share holders wrath. but they have not stepped out of the box to be different.
God knows what Parle is up to with British union jack flag on BakersSmith marie brand bringing colonial era back.
once I was at the mumbai international airport to pickup a relative. Was stunned by flight after flight foreigners walking out with formal suits in masses. Atleast the clothes suggested they were not tourist.

Some Patanjali Products Review:

We have used many products of patanjali since 2-3 years. Tooth brush, paste, tooth powder, hand wash, face wash…these we keep in stock at home. Products which we tested and liked the most are..

1] Divya Dant Manjan : other than normal use, if you have tooth pain, just take a cotton, put some power and keep in on tooth for sometime, you will get immediately relief from the pain.

2] Jwarnashak kwath : Truly amazing product for fever and cold. Take it early in the morning. Very effective for fever and cold. However, drinking it will be big challenge wink

3] divya kanti lep : If you have pimples, keep applying it for twice a day. Pimple will run away from your face!

4] Patanjali Choco Delite Biscuit : kids liked this one most!

5] Patanjali Chocos Flakes : Again kids liked this one most!

Products which we didn’t liked are :

1] Patanjali Atta Noodles : Not that tasty smile

2] Patanjali Navratna Atta : Not that soft roti’s… at home some didn’t liked it

Products for which we are waiting for : Face powder, lipstick…

@goyal.dkg I don’t like noodles much. But will give it a try.
Have already bought their dishwash bar. Mom yet to use it.
We always buy butter from Khadi and clarify it at home. Nothing beats its taste till date. Will try Patanjali ghee soon just to check the taste.

I don’t like Ramdev’s yoga much. He has reduced it to a set of physical exercises. I don’t say it’s wrong but has its serious limitations. Yoga is much more than that. But we can’t expect him to teach more than what he knows. toungueout
Still, his FMCG initiative should be appreciated. smile

@BUTTERFLYBOY I guess Mr. Iyer got pissed off by the unrefined whole wheat the biscuits are made of. These are the only Marie biscuits I know of which contain dietary fibre (not jute fibre). toungueout
But the fact remains that their products need more quality checks.
FYI, I stay away from most of the beauty products wherever they are from. Have tried only Aloe Vera gel from Patanjali, it’s not bad. wink

@gambitrite You just wrote my thoughts down. Thanks. smile
