The telecom regulator has directed Reliance Communications to share the unspent balance details of prepaid users compelled to move out of the telco’s network after sudden closure of its 2G GSM services in 8 circles and stoppage of CDMA services in 9 circles, post-upgradation to 4G networks.
It has asked the Anil Ambani-led telco to share the November data on this score by December 1, and the December data by January 1, 2018.
In a direction issued on Friday, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) also asked RCom to submit by January 10, 2018, a detailed list of all prepaid subscribers who could not be ported out till December 31.
The telecom regulator has also asked RCom to share details by November 17 of its total 2G and CDMA subscriber base as on October 31 in circles where 2G GSM services were stopped and CDMA services were discontinued.
RCom had earlier informed Trai that it had stopped 2G GSM services in Andhra Pradesh, Haryana, Maharashtra, UP-East, UP-West, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Kerala. It had also apprised the regulator on upgradation of its CDMA networks in 9 circles – Delhi, Rajasthan, UP-West, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, West Bengal, Gujarat and Kolkata— to 4G, following the merger with Sistema Shyam Teleservices (SSTL).
“Under normal circumstances, balance prepaid amount would have been utilised by prepaid subscribers before porting out, but due to sudden closure of services, the unspent prepaid balance is outstanding with RCom in the form of recharge coupons/plans,” Trai said in its direction. Similar balance, it said, would also be left by customers unable to port out by December 31.

Trai is getting too many complaints regarding balance refund through pgportal and many more complaints are expected hence this order was necessary
Is it not stopping services in MP.?
CC – @aswaniexpress see this.!
With occasional hiccups in network, which interestingly haven’t happened from 2-3 weeks, rest is fine here in MP. Have got no confirmation from reliance and only idea, airtel disturbs whole day with sms and calls to port out. Still using, free data 1gb and unlimited calls for rs 87. Speed also became very good as most people have ported out.
Wondering what will TRAI do with these lists? I don’t see how they will refund subscribers, if they plan to do so at all
Everything is possible like sending cheques at registered address.
I didn’t get it…. Means we have to wait till 31 December without port then only they sent refund or what about they already port out ?
If you had already ported out to another operator then there’s nothing that can be done
And I just saw https://twitter.com/RCommCare/with_r...es and they are replying now.!
Shoot your queries to them and get clarification.
@extramoney pls share the source also, from next time, if the content is copied

I already stated that according to accounting rules they can recognise revenue only if users have used the balance or ported out.
Forcing users to port isn’t legal option.
I already lodged my complain on PGPORTAL, wrote to various authorities….
Still we have to live without active connection till when we receive refund.
Alternatively you can file your complain and then port out stating you were forced due to circumstances(no active connection) and want refund even after you ported out.
can you please share their mail IDs so that I can also forward my concern to them..
Have posted in pgportal and consumer helpline.. yet to receive response from RComm.
Based on earlier experience with overcharging/call drop etc, RCom may be asked to transfer the excess balance to the common customer protection pool. Individual not expected to get any benefit.
Can anybody please help
I have 2 Reliance 4G connections in Gurgaon, 1 prepaid & 1 postpaid. Do I have to port out or can I stay on Reliance? What will happen to my existing prepaid balance & postpaid money if I port out? How to talk to customer care?
RCom will only keep “Enterprise” 4G service alive. everything else will be stopped. RCom does not have VoLTE so no voice in 4G. Only data and SMS will work. As it will be “Enterprise” service, I would predict that even prepaid 4G will stop and only high ARPU postpaid data plan will work.
However, given the present financial condition, long term viability of the service is highly in doubt.
You must have already got the porting codes by SMS. The codes are valid only till 31.12.2017 and there will be no further porting option after that.
So if you numbers are important and you need voice facilities, port as soon as possible. On porting your prepaid balance will be lost. If you have LTE signals use as much as possible on data before porting out.
Surprise to see they stopped 4G sim upgrade also. My friend needed to continue but even after having upgrade sim with them the retailer denied to give to him by saying upgrade also stopped.
Those who have 4G sim and want to port later will be able to choose partner network or send sms by connecting to data on LTE network. I have 4G sim and can access Airtel/Idea/Voda network to send sms to 1900 and no charges too. As no. is not of that importance no regret if they close it.
Finally its gone
Now getting connected to Idea
No calls/SMS
Here in Kolkata no signal on Rcom 2g gsm
