There are various reasons

You can’t have 2 accounts in the same bank as you will be having only 1 customer id.
But you can have 1 single account and 1 joint account in the same bank.

However, it is desired to have single cust I’d for a single customer , multiple cif no of same customer is not allowed except, which are created before core banking.

now as per Finance Ministry guidelines, all customer ID needs to be linked to PAN number. banks are merging multiple customer IDs of same PAN into one ID for individuals (not applicable for corporates). all accounts of that customer would be mapped to a single customer id (also called CIF by some banks). the only exception is where the account holder is a minor and a guardian’s PAN has been given. however, against the same customer ID, a person can have multiple accounts of different product types like normal savings, joint savings, salary, overdraft, current, recurring deposit, fixed deposit etc.

however, Jan Dhan Account [basically a Basic Savings Bank Deposit Account (BSBDA) account] holders can not have both Jan Dhan account and normal savings account with the same bank, as per RBI BSBDA guidelines – query 3 of the link https://www.rbi.org.in/scripts/FAQView.aspx...96 – please note that the guideline says “bank” and not “branch” implying you can not have a regular account at any branch of the bank you have a BSBDA account.

Apart bsbda, can one have regular savings account in two branches of same bank? What is penalty /any adverse outcome of any?

You can open two or more accounts. They will attach with CIF number of your first branch means all contact details will be same but you will have a different account number. If you open internet banking you will see those two accounts, no need to get separate Internet Banking

Wondering what exactly are the key benefits of having multiple savings accounts in same bank (assuming possible at all currently)? https://cdn2.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_rolleyes.gif https://cdn1.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_confused.gif

no problem

you can have as many savings accounts under same customer id or cif provided bank is willing to open

you have to explain/ give reason why you need such accounts in first place

maximum i seen in my bank is 4 accounts of one person or

but it will be difficult to maintain all four accounts separate ATm cards or mobile banking or sms numbers

you will get confused plus annual charges and all not beneficial at all
