Uber Issue - How to approach

Hi Dimers,

I need some advice on an issue with uber. I am sure all are aware of toll charges in airports.
The toll charges are not applicable for drops and if you exit from airport within 10 mins.

I took an uber ride on 05th and they charged me 100/- as toll charges even though the exit was within 10 mins. I called the driver and confirmed that he never paid any money at the toll booth.

So the money which uber deducted will stay with them and never goes to govt. On contacting uber they replied that it is indeed applicable for my ride. I now wonder how much money they would have pocketed in the last few years. Can I approach this issue legally? Suggestions pls.

Thanks,
Jithesh

Faced the exact same problem in Chennai airport. Fought with Uber customer care for nearly a week but they never reversed the charge. I told them i’m willing to pay the toll charges if they can produce a toll receipt but they never responded.

Anyways, if you want to take this up legally, approach RTO and raise a complaint.

BTW, cheating customers in the name of airport charges is nothing new for Uber.

Any lawyers or law students here?

Whether this will come under RTO or Consumer Court or a PIL?

More than the broken system its their response that irks.

Similar issue is there in OLA w.r.t normal highway tolls, but whenever i raised the complaint they refunded 22/-. In OLA, if you pass through 2 tolls you will be charged twice even though only once it is applicable.

In Mumbai,Uber has stopped auto deducting airport pickup charge 110 Rs automatically.
The customer has to pay the charge manually.

Picked up customer has to pay toll at airports.
If bill has specific column as Toll then its easy fight.
If uber is charging as airport charges, then it is up to them to pay or not.
Like after dropping a pax if they do not get another pax for say 2hrs then at exit Rs200 charged, in this case may be uber is paying from its pocket those extra Rs100 parking charges(assuming parking charges Rs100/hr) and not charging drop/pickup pax actual parking charges paid.
I was never charged for drop either in OLA/UBER.

They will charge additionally for airport pickup and drop. Just come outside and book cab. They won’t charge. I usually do that.

Uber never refunds u . Even complaining them of a driver is of no use . Even they don’t have a Indian number and all can be done is only through email . I don’t use Uber now cause of this reasons .
