This 21 days lock down will seem to be a cakewalk for some, but it’s a very bad period in life for some, my dad has a small business which is on the verge of shutting down as the labour has gone to their village, even paying rent is getting very difficult, and there is no income I am also not settled yet government is doing so much for the poor but there should be some provision like rent relaxation for 1 month atleast, my dad is also stressed I am very sad we have no house of our own we have to pay rent and it gets  difficult to pay for rent every month, our savings is not much, and the landlord comes every 1st day of the month to collect rent no business no home very less food no good savings I am from a lower middle class family

Same here brother,, have to pay salary to 4 labours… Have to pay home loan EMI and Credit card bill… Shop is closed… No earning source for now.. Saving can last for 2 months only. However i don’t think this issue is gonna over soon.. Coronavirus is here to stay for atleast 2-3 months,, and things will take at least 11-12 months to get normal

Achha. Your situation is plain bad, unquestionably. Can you cope with your situation? That’s the main question. A few give up, a few keep their strength and carry on.

Would telling my situation make you feel any better? Well your dad’s business is on the verge of shutting down, whereas mine shut down three years back. Court cases ongoing to get it back, and knowing Indian judiciary it takes lifetime for even small matters to be resolved, and now due to this corona the courts are closed indefinitely. I have zero income. I am living with my mum’s 7.5k monthly pension. Somehow managing basic foods, that’s it. Cancelled all medical insurances, ZERO SAVINGS in bank. Need I go on?

There is always someone worse, much worse than yours. Someone told me that long back. I hated that guy (still do) for saying something like that. Because if you keep comparing yourself with the worse then there is no bottom, it’s a bottomless pit. However, I do not think you are in a position to give up just yet. So stay strong.

And if there is anyone for whom this 21-day lockdown is a cakewalk, should visit a fucking psychiatrist at once.

Hmm but for many it’s actually a cakewalk see the celebs or even those with jobs working from home and they upload videos like enjoying stay at home etc. etc. I know it’s a bad time but government should think of other than bpl families, landlord is so rich even if they relax 1 month rent it could be a good help for some money is the only humanity

I don’t watch what a bunch of rich monkeys are doing, sorry. There are plenty to watch on youtube etc. to pass time, quality time.

In regards to govt. thinking of BPL only but not for others, well, that is how it has always been. BPL people are the votes. Govt. only cares about votebank. So by giving them free gas, free food etc. they are gonna retain their votes. We, middle class, was always the fucked up segment and always gonna remain so. Why would govt. do anything for us? They quite well know they are not going to get out votes just on the basis of some freebies. We are always gonna rationalise their actions, through our knowledge and common sense etc and vote accordingly. In other words, they can’t buy us off, like they do with the BPLs/ illiterate people.

So we can pretty much forget about it. It’s like this for long time anyway. Middle class always being the most affected class.

Government cannot legally ask home owners to waiver the rent.
But you can ask for half month payment atleast since the shutdown happened only this week and test your luck with the owner.
He won’t get any new tenants at this point anyway.

Well it’s a relative cakewalk for me, relative being the keyword. Now coming back to the OP → I was looking to do something similar a while back i.e. opening a small business but couldn’t justify the long road to profitability for a few reasons.

Now I hope this situation allows us a great opportunity to highlight some of the malice in our society & economy. Around my place, semi rural area, as major roads developed the residential plots near the road were all converted or rather rented to allow for commercial operations like shops, gym, clinic etc.

These plots were bought for as low as 10k-50k some 30 years back but more recently, just a decade back as the roads were being planned, for 10 lakh or so. These are all plots about 1k-6k ft^2 in size.

So what the land owners, now well off financially, do is they’ve given these lands on rent for as much as 5 lakh/month in some cases while they stay cozily in the city or another metro earning probably in the millions as salaried employees.

The rent is paid in cash mostly & is not reflected in the books of these land or property owners, so they’re already earning as salaried employees but also double dipping & earning probably 2-10x through these properties.

Now my point is that we have such kind of well educated leeches as well who aren’t politicians or bureaucrats nor businessmen but with some luck (by investing in right properties) they’ve become millionaires & possibly crorepatis in the upcoming days! These people are also not paying their fair share of taxes & in fact arguably(?) illegally skirting their IT burden.

So the point is a disproportionate number of Indians are hypocrites, greedy AF, tax dodgers & falsely like to portray that they’re patriotic when they’re nothing of the sort! I sincerely hope you & your family does weather the storm & come out stronger at the end of it all.

I am in same shoes, cc bill, EMIs, rent all nearing and I got no business this month. Asking relaxation to the owner is all in vein, he says he is all dependent on the rent I gave him, he is right from his end and I see no hope already….lockdown was only hope as I can see cases are increasing day after day no good news of any kind. 2020 is worst for majority of them. Rich ones are sitting at home blaming the poor for the spread as they don’t have to run for essentials but we do. I wish we had some real life superheroes to get us through this inevitable rallies of worries.

Very nice step by Govt. else in their utter hopelessness of no earnings, these BPL people would have gone at lengths to rob & loot middle class people only. So please be mindful of the imminent dangers that this present situation is posing.

As usual…always middle class is affected….middle class ppl pay taxs correctly else they come around ous for very small issues too and give that too poor and this cycle repeats even now….

Ur saying you can pay rents due to shutting down your business but in my family case, we cant pay EMIs or pay for other things if our tenants don’t pay rent for ous…. bz both the side same middle class ppl are there….so think the other side too
