I am in 7th sem btech, mechanical engineering. Our 8th sem have no university exam & it is fir industrial training / project. So
what should I do in 8th sem?

From my bottom of heart i want to work in a startup, my interests are in mobiles & new similar technologies. Though I taken
Mechanical engineering but I not much like automobiles as I do mobiles.

What you guys would suggest me?
I should go for training in an automobile company ( I live in gurgaon) ?
Or
I should find a way to enter in any startup?

Also tell, is there any startup interenship?
Or could I be there without any experience?

Startups are innovative, struggling & could change life if it’s employees as well as market.

Who will like to join you only for 6 months ?

U need experience or great idea to give value to startup, better u join some big industrial house where some system and order is maintaining like mahendra , Hyundai , maruti etc.

Industry exposure will give u idea of what is being done and what is useless or innovation on current process.

Switching automatically from auto to mobile is which I can’t visualize, better go upwards like rocket , or take help of rocket global.

Sexondly, you can try ur luck with big basket, Byju , paytm etc. Which are no longer startups.

Have Guts, accepts the points on which you have to work. Accept defeats proudly and make yourself Job Ready. Getting a job is like a cake these days only if you are worth it. Enjoy and start chilling in life.

You need to be bloody motivated to commit your time to a startup. On the outside it’s a fad and cult that everyone wants to be a part of but once you get in you will realise how miserable your life can get. People who are serious sacrifice their time, personal life, money and what not to crack a major pain/problem people face and in this process more than 99% startups fail in a period of 3 years from inception.

As a B.Tech.-grad-to-be you need to be already passionate about a certain field you would like to learn about if you want to associate with a startup. If mobiles (a very broad sense) is you passion then rethink what exactly you want to do. Is it reviewing mobiles? Is it application of mobility devices in certain sector? Is it hardware? Is it apps? What exactly you would like to pursue and what industry (e-commerce, travel, fintech etc.). Once you have your domain and purpose ready start doing your ground work.

For your ground work this is what I expect you to do. Read the basics and get the required knowledge in terms of domain and application. Then identify potential startups that you can associate with, remember that it’s give and take when you associate with a startup. Even as an intern you need to able to contribute something to the startup to make some process easy for them and at the same time take more responsibilities and enhance your knowledge/capabilities.

Interning shouldn’t be a fun 6 month session, it should help your interests/career after those 6 months. Yup, startups fail as it’s no easy task but at the same time there are immense learnings one can get if they are passionate to learn.

Corporates are a safe bet, it can add value to your resume in case you want to continue further in a corporate life but at the same time don’t expect too many responsibilities and learnings. From my point of view, you can get accustomed to how things happen/work in a corporate environment and learn the processes you need to follow, ethics (the few they have) you need to get accustomed to and etc. These are quite valuable too on a long run.

All the best!

Better to join startup organizations like NEN where they help you to be a better leader. Also its a must to know how to convince people otherwise even if you have an idea your startup may end up not getting attention. Also do some managerial courses and find a job in Corporate which will give enough exposure and contacts.

Don’t go with a startup at least for now as the start up market is saturated and consolidating. Try for a job in a company in line with the tech you want to be in (big companies will always try to push you into stuff they are doing right from the days of training). If you have new ideas try to nurture it along with your job as your job will provide the financial bootstrap if required. One of my colleagues even though he was from a CS background but had a huge interest for automobiles. He worked in IT for a few years and then went to Pune I believe to work with someone who was modifying all these Innova’s, TTs (tempo travellers) into those luxury RV/Caravan. To provide custom solutions in such mods would cost good money he used to tell so he used to come up with new ideas using SoCs (like Raspberry pi, arduino) to automate many tasks at a cheaper price. He had many such cost cutting ideas (his IT background of course helped him) and now he is planning to start his own enterprise to provide custom solutions for a US firm as a joint venture.

You would need a job always as a temporary back up plan and by having a job no one would stop/question you from anything you want to pursue. All the best
