Whats wrong with Amazon Customer Service nowadays....

I have been one of the silent admirers of Amazon for past few years. However recently there have been many cases where the complaint resolution is not upto the mark. Even that is fine. But what I experienced today really left a bad taste in my mouth. The Customer care executive inspite of my repeated requests for escalation, just closed the chat like that only. Dont know if I am wrong or if that is the norm nowadays. Following are the chat excerpts:

04:02 PM IST Me: Ok. another issue with this order is that I had ordered Pilot Frixion Clicker Roller Pen (Blue)
04:02 PM IST Akshat: The same will be done via ICICI too.
Let me this too.
04:03 PM IST Akshat: check this too.
04:03 PM IST Me: The problem is that I got Black pen
04:04 PM IST Akshat: I do apologize for the same and I am very sorry for the inconvenience.

Thank you all for commenting on this thread. Overwhelmingly negative feedback (16 negative out of 18; still wondering about 2 positive votes https://cdn2.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_toungueout.gif ) implies that I didnot handle the discussion with Amazon well and I was wrong though I thought otherwise. It also helps me in pondering on a few things:

Trust: Some people highlighted the trust factor. What if I had used the pen and then try to return it. While I havenot and had I the same intention I could have done the same and returned it within return windows, however it really points out one important factor which is really missing in India i.e. trusting others for face value. Maybe I am old fashioned and need to move ahead with times

Concentration: Apart from a very few people, most of the people commenting didnot even realize the issue that I wanted to discuss – the behaviour of customer care guy in abruptly ending the discussion. Instead most of them focussed on other issue like return. I had already highlighted that many a times resolution has not been to my liking and that was not the issue. Anyway in todays world of instant news. whatsapp, facebook, instagram etc etc, I feel it is really important to concentrate on the real issue. Will keep this in mind

Sanctimonious: It also gave me a feedback on not being sanctimonious. Like many people on DD would jump at word “Loot”; use multiple accounts and refer and earn to earn money meant for promotion for new users but at the same time give gyan on not to loot Amazon / Other shopping sites as if my returning the Pen is symptomatic of all the problems of e-commerce. Anyway will keep it in mind to be not like it in future when dealing with problems being faced by others

Trolling: Of course no one would like to get trolled. In this thread I also felt like trolled, realized how it felt like being called names that you arenot; and judged by someone who doesnot even know you . Made me realize that I also may have trolled people when passing judgement on them. Thanks guys for making me realize about the negativity of trolling

@rainmaker The reason I didn’t address your primary issue of their cc being a bit stubborn was because it had already been touched upon by @ranjithsai01 . It’s obvious that they have been advised by the management not to go out of the way to assist customers because of terrible misuse of their policies. Hope you already got that point from the discussion so far. It’s always better to remain cautious with any online store however great their service has been. See I agree to an extent to your point about misuse of policies. Trust is very important in any society. Infact if you read about the great civilizations / superpowers in ancient and recent times, it is clear that apart from hardworking people in these nations / societies they had trust, faith and sense of fairness in individuals (of course, exceptions are everywhere). In ancient times we used to have concepts of Dharma and Karma which were lost over a period of time resulting in such a misery to us over last millenia. To succeed or even dream of becoming a recognized power, Indians also need to have the same script – Hardwork, trust, sense of fairness and concentration (new requirement in today’s digitalized world https://cdn2.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_toungueout.gif )

I empathize with you but you have to admit it’s largely/mostly your fault. What I do, at times, when Amazon CC irritate me is that I don’t end the chat seesion, unlike what some others have said they cannot terminate it unless it’s been idle for 5mins. So if I want to get in touch with a supervisor I almost always get in touch with him, you have to have free time to go into a pissing war even with Amazon’s CC. I do however check virtually all my online shopping packages when they’re delivered, because of the reasons you listed. The thing is with people sending duplicate electronic items or even stones (earlier) via return shipping even Amazon has had to turn a new leaf in India, as compared to their other ventures.

See I agree to an extent to your point about misuse of policies. Trust is very important in any society. Infact if you read about the great civilizations / superpowers in ancient and recent times, it is clear that apart from hardworking people in these nations / societies they had trust, faith and sense of fairness in individuals (of course, exceptions are everywhere). In ancient times we used to have concepts of Dharma and Karma which were lost over a period of time resulting in such a misery to us over last millenia. I empathize with you but you have to admit it’s largely/mostly your fault. What I do, at times, when Amazon CC irritate me is that I don’t end the chat seesion, unlike what some others have said they cannot terminate it unless it’s been idle for 5mins. So if I want to get in touch with a supervisor I almost always get in touch with him, you have to have free time to go into a pissing war even with Amazon’s CC. I do however check virtually all my online shopping packages when they’re delivered, because of the reasons you listed. The thing is with people sending duplicate electronic items or even stones (earlier) via return shipping even Amazon has had to turn a new leaf in India, as compared to their other ventures.

Regarding the epidemic, again I agree with you. It worries me that this problem is not limited to a few people but it is endemic in our system. Which is what is really needed to be changed. Maybe when people will have more resources, their need to cheat will reduce and then maybe we can again start trusting each other and the system

Nah I don’t think we’ll see a change in our lifetime, just look at the rich politicians, babus & their ilk. Greed is a bottomless pit & there are too many (greedy f***s) in this world, jo apne desh ke nahi ho sakte woh kiske honge?

I believe amazon exec is absolutely right. If their return period is over, they can’t do anything. But still he offered you 50rs gv… It is totally our fault if we are not checking our ordered product within time period. They are shipping thousands of parcels everyday, these kind of silly mistakes happens sometimes.. So try to understand from their perception as well.. They are not sellers they are just mediator… If return period is over.. their is nothing anyone can do…
