Buy Fire stick. You can install almost all app to fire stick itself, so you wont have to cast it which will save phone battery and wont heat it. So go for stick or wait till amazon host a sale and then buy.
Note: I am using fire stick (normal one, not 4k model) from december 2018. Its smooth and works good. Way better than my set top box. I already have 50 Mbps broadband connection, so now my tv viewing experience is optimal with minimum cost.

yes, kind of .. as mentioned by someone above, apps can be installed on the fire stick.

for chromecast, you need a device t “cast”. Once cast is started, Phone batter is not used unless someone is casting their phone screen.

while both wi support almost similar apps, as of now, Prime video cannot be casted on chromecast.

It can now be casted! But u mean both will be able to play similar apps? (If we leave casting issue)

I have used mirra cast which was not bad but your phone had to be on and it just displayed what ever showed on the phone screen.. From what I understand with chromcast if you run a video in a browser that video will fill the tv screen when cast. So you don’t see all the other stuff.. So anything you run like on a PC browser will show up on the TV. While anything you run on a PC with like VLC player will show up on fire stick and all aps on amazon store.. Since both are android, chrome wont go away and if it does, then fire stick will also go away.. I suppose the difference is, video playback is a function of chrome itself instead of using VLC.. But how would you play net flix? On chrome this would be done by the browser but on a PC you need the Netflix app..

Yeah, fire stick is Android TV with voice search. Voice search will work in Amazon prime video only however Amazon has quite large inventory of movies and videos.
Note: Fire stick has dedicated hardware and runs Android version 8+. Go for fire stick instead of any casting device or other Android TV box.

Fire stick has dedicated app store and from there you can download optimized app for TV. App can also be sideloaded from other sources.

I tried to buy it many years ago but amazon did not sell anything in india and had to settle for a regular mx android box. I do all watching on a PC anyway..
