There is still a lot that is unknown about the newly emerged 2019 novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) and how it spreads. As far as I remember my biology lessons, the virus is neither living nor dead, they can replicate/live only in a host body(like a human) once they leave the human body they eventually die ( in few hours, at least they cannot replicate after that)

This is one of the primary reasons most of the medicine is not effective against virus and the immune system can only defeat such cases.

In the case of bacterial infections, they can live independently, but the positive thing about that medicines are effective on that and can be easily cured. A scientist can also easily develop medicine for bacterial diseases like viral infections

There are some exceptions though.
