Why 2.2 Litre Varicor (Tata) or mHawk(Mahindra) Engines produce 140 BHP but 2.0 Litre Vw Engines Produce 190 BHP

You are looking at torque mainly as you are concerned about overtaking. Many other factors influence torque like weight…etc.
German engines may be efficient but power would be more or less same under similar conditions.

BHP is the raw power, aerodynamics, weight of vehicle are ok, but without high BHP, vehicle wont pickup fast.
hope Tata and Mahindra add new type of high power engines.

now Jeep compass launched with 2.0 Litre engine, its bhp is 172 so high fuel efficicency due to 2.0 litre engine.

XUV 500 with upgraded bhp of 170 bhp is expected to release by diwali

now Xuv 500 – 140 Bhp
Xuv 500 w9 – 170 bhp

with 140 bhp it can easily reach 190 kmph top speed, so i am sure it reach 200kmph top speed without any doubt.

Not sure why you are so fascinated about reaching 190kmph. In a country like India with lawless traffic, poor road infrastructure , speeds above 100-120 kmph is extremely dangerous not just for you but for other roads users too. I have driven german cars in India which are capable of doing 280 kmph but never exceeded 120 kmph on the even on smooth 6 lane highways.

I am not the best person to answer this but still let me try,
But the power output from an engine in tuned to satisfy a number of things :
1. Load of the vehicle + passenger + cargo it is going to carry
2. Vehicle aerodynamics, taking a sharp curve, bad road
3. Fuel efficiency, etc

So, to factor all these, the power output from an engine is tuned in such a way that there is a
→ Balance between power and safety
→ Good fuel efficiency
→ Less pollution (to satisfy BS4 norms)
etc.

Hence, Mahindras and Tatas are content with such output.
While VWs/Audio etc are extracting most of the engines because these cars can handle insane speeds (180+ kmph).

Btw, engine refinement is also a continuous process which is evident from the fact that Honda diesel engines are still noisy (relatively new engines) as compared to Hyundai’s diesel engines which are silent and vibration free.

P.S. Drive as fast as you can, but wear a seat belt + keep car tyres in good condition.
If possible get an ABS and front and rear airbag car.

now express highways are good, also i am not driving in 190 kmph all time, normally 120-140 as this imcrease in bhp increase the pickup

yeah seat belt is must and cow/dog cross the roads frequently and cause for most accident in highway

ALso mahindra is tunning same 2.2 Litre engine for 210 bhp power for their Mahindra Aero concept vehicle, so i am sure mahindra planned to use single engine with different power just like volkswagen do, that reduce the seperate engine research for each engine.

@cybertechie Driving at 120 or more on a 2 lane highway may be a bit dangerous but on smooth 6 laners it’s quite slow. 6 lanes are designed for swift driving and if a driver is skillful and smart with good reflexes and sharp brain even 170+ is not too much.

Please don’t mind but chickening out at 120 kmps on smooth 6 lane highways tells me that unfortunately, you might lack these virtues.

now mhawk engine of Plush XUV 500 is increased to 155 Bhp from 140 Bhp.

ALso electric vehicles coming soon, hope these guys launch Tesla in india which have 200+ Bhp and high torque.
