Why people who buy ONLINE deals considered second grade customers?

This is so much commonplace.

I fail to understand why many establishments consider people who are coming with deal vouchers bought online as second grade customers ?

We buy deals from Nearbuy, Littleapp, Cleartrip local etc for saving as well as convenience and,
→ We are made to wait longer at fine dining places.
→ Reservations are not given even while calling 24 hours in advance (at times)
→ Front desk of restaurant gives strange looks and is not as welcoming as people trowing oodles of cash at them
→ Made to wait longer than other people because they don’t know how to redeem the deal
→ Refused to provide service citing they are closing down or they are facing unexpected rush (for no booking required places)

Any remedy to escape this harassment?
I took my friends to this place called Indian Grill Room on Golf Course Road, Gurgaon which had better than awesome reviews (Especially courteous staff).
And I was told that I came late, though the voucher said 7pm-11pm is open timing for my reservation on that day.
Finally had to plead to them to let us dine since we were really excited and hungry at the same time.

If they don’t want to provide same quality of service then why should they give out these deal vouchers?

Worst part about yesterday’s experience was when the front desk called us by name DEAL VOUCHER WALE LOG aajao idhar khare ho jao ! https://cdn2.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_evil.gif

You are right, no need to purchase vouchers, directly go to there and get what you want.

You can get better deal (really worth deal without discount)

Nearbuy and little deal prices are anyways matched. We buy when there is a discount on those

You would not see that in national merchants . Think it’s more of a Delhi NCR thing. Faced a somewhat similar situation in Hauz khas

True !!

These restaurant chains start these offers to get customers
But..their staff has usually no clue about these things and they are not trained about these things. They think we are here to have freebies https://cdn2.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_evil.gif

True. Classic example is hotel bookings. The hotel actually knows how much did you pay. I recall a lot of complaints during Oyo deals.

Someone had complained about a service in Oyo and the reply he got was " itne mein jo mil Raha hai khush raho"

Even if we get 100% cb from little or nearbuy – the cb hit is not taken by the merchant but by the site. So don’t understand what the fuss is about.

Always thought its ncr problem.
Seems like a pan India thing.

They put themselves on the sites just because others are there too and not bcoz they understand the benefit.

Stop avoiding and start to register complains with a complain no. …. it’s always work to teach them a good lesson as Higher authorities are clueless about such behaviour… so they act immediately if we complain…

Agreed. Same happens in Mumbai area. I remember little deal for ice cream which was valid till 5.00 pm and we reached at 5.15 and they denied the deal.
Even if you book anything from bms or movie app portal dey deny any changes (Pepsi replacement with Miranda)
Same goes for online order using zomato or swiggy when we avail huge discounts.

Even in Hyderabad there was no difficulty in reserving tables even in peak time…

I think most good restaurants have feedback option. You can always ask the waiter for the feedback diary. If that’s not available, send your feedback to their email ids. If even that’s not possible, social media is your friend.

I don’t think that these people will change without understanding that what they are doing is wrong.

@19FemaleGurgaon Right on! Thanks for creating this thread.

I had a similarly bad experience at one 3/4-star restaurant. When I almost threatened the manager with my Tripadvisor reputation and the inevitable negative rating for his establishment and himself, he confessed and told me that they usually only get college students with “Groupon” vouchers so they aren’t used to seeing “premium/well-to-do” customers with vouchers.

For a few seconds, I was shocked at the underlying discriminatory nature of his thought process. Then I gathered my thoughts and tried my best to explain to him that “Groupon” (Nearbuy/Little) are discovery platforms without which people like me would not even hear about their relatively new niché establishments. So rather than treating us with a second-tier service, they should strive to make the visit as pleasant for voucher customers as possible. I told him that it’s the “voucher customers” who are actually most active in online reviews/ratings and have the power to make or break their businesses.

I suggest everyone who gets a bad experience because of visiting a restaurant/spa/salon with a voucher to educate the managers about the same. We should also make it a point to leave either a positive or a negative review on all the major platforms depending on our experience to fix their attitudes and discriminatory nature. Remember, we have the power to do so, at least in this case!

Thanks for the meaningful reply.

That’s the remedy I took, I told him (front desk guy at Indian Grill House) that I am Google Local Area Guide and Level “X” reviewer on Tripadvisor.
But he was not listening a word of mine. It was Friday evening and hence a crowded day.

All he replied was that they will be able to provide a table to three of us only if there is no “cash paying” guest coming.
And worst part was that it was a Cleartrip Local booking which has to be redeemed the same day.

Essentially, I think they treat people coming with vouchers a burden. But you have correctly pointed out we are the people who can make or break their business by actively reviewing online.

I was actually shy since I didnt tell my friends that I am carrying any voucher, because sad part is that even my friends would have thought I am giving them a treat for free ! https://cdn1.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_sad.gif

Treating it as a one-off exception, I would continue to use the service but we all should complain through the right channel if treatment is not justified. https://cdn3.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_twisted.gif

Instead complaining here online, why didn’t you rant it then and there? Create a scene, why not can you not make your voice herd there?

@A2Zdeals Not sure what factors affect but from what I see in the comments here the issue seems to be prominent with upscale restaurants which I generally not go to much unless and until the occasion calls for it.

@DealSeeker very well said and pointed out. Of the very few experiences I have at dining outside even I realised that if a restaurant/manager has the zeal to improve the customer’s experience they are all ears for suggestions and improvements. Whenever I have an experience to share, good or bad, I do ensure I give the feedback.

Also, at least for Hyderabad, I hardly see any great restaurants in Nearbuy/Little so may be the restaurant managers are already aware that the crowd coming with vouchers are their potential customers to spread out a good word.

Deal Subedar Deal Subedar

totally agree!! so the solution I found is to select a restaurant where u have less crowd any day u visit. I have take my office team to lunch from Cleartrip vouchers and faced no problem https://cdn2.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_toungueout.gif another solution is to buy items such as std. thali for restaurants. they will server normal and go away. anything extra I pay. 3rd solution take printout and handover as soon as u reach there. let then take that print and do whatever they want to do with it instead of making anyone stand in the counter till they redeem.

@19FemaleGurgaon The front desk people and the servers are usually neither aware of the consequences of pissing off a top rated reviewer nor are even aware of how and where we get the vouchers from.

As you have rightly mentioned, like many in even our own groups, the front-desk staff/servers equate vouchers with freeloaders. So don’t lessen the importance of our reviewer credentials by dropping it on ignorant people. Always ask for the manager and then escalate it that way. https://cdn2.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_wink.gif

You have taken up a great initiative by starting this thread.

I once visited California Boulevard, Gurgaon. I called them in advance, announced the voucher and asked for a table. I was told it’s peak time time and I should come later. I said I am nearby only and will come and wait if required.
I reached the restaurant and was surprised to get a table immediately.

Someone very rightly mentioned that the customers with vouchers are usually the one active online.

By the way, just curious, how about making a prior reservation? I always do make it a point to reserve a table as mentioned in terms of nearbuy. If the restaurants have a system of taking reservations they do honour it without issues if they don’t they just as us to come down directly.

Once I reach the restaurant they note down my details and keep allotting the tables as per the order in their book.

Isn’t the same system of following the order followed in other locations?

Entertainer Entertainer

Atleast I took reservation from the restaurant.
Was given an option to come anytime between 7pm-11pm.
And when I went there, I was told your reservation was for 7 pm.
And told, Sorry I can’t help you. https://cdn1.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_eek.gif

And there were groups coming without a reservation being allotted table before us. https://cdn1.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_sad.gif In cash, they were asking around Rs 500 for both. https://cdn1.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_sad.gif

May be it’s like they got the money beforehand.. you aren’t going to pay them now, no extra ‘tips’ they would be receiving from you even if they behave well with you..

kind of. see its a like a prepaid thing. ur not paying or u have already paid for everything. and i have seen ppl usually dont tip n avoid tipping at all cost and behave awkward and sometimes rudely with servers so as to avoid tips. also usually there is no way these ppl can bring u bill and hence no room for the obliged tipping . now they cant ask for tip directly right as the best option for tip was during the bill payment . https://cdn2.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_toungueout.gif so these servers have a notion from previous experiences tht the customers who usually buy disc vouchers or deals are like this only behave not in a good way n no tips mostly . hence they have started behaving like this with them.
