Xiaomi terminates support for seven Redmi phones

Xiaomi has been known for updating even five-year-old smartphones to its latest MIUI, but it seems like this practice is about to end. The company has just announced on its forums that seven smartphones will stop receiving software support, meaning no MIUI 11 or any Global Beta in the future.

The full list includes:

  • Xiaomi Redmi Note 4
  • Xiaomi Redmi 3S
  • Xiaomi Redmi 3X
  • Xiaomi Redmi 4
  • Xiaomi Redmi 4A
  • Xiaomi Redmi Note 3
  • Xiaomi Redmi Pro

The Mi Community Admin said that the normal upgrade for other devices will not be affected for the time being. The announcement appeared on the Indian board as well, meaning all variants of the Redmi Note 4 are likely to stop receiving any sort of firmware updates.

The blog post revealed that although any ROMs won’t hit the phones anymore, they would still receive normal security updates for the time being, but we are skeptical this trend will continue for long. Sadly, this means these phones (most of them in India) will keep having ads in the user interface since Xiaomi will remove the feature with MIUI 11.

I have read somewhere(and not know how true it is), that, smartphones will receive only two Android updates. For later updates… the hardware becomes old and not support.

I am using 4A, it received Marshmallow and Nougat. So, it won’t ever receive Oreo or later.
Same will be applied to others(though not sure).

In some cases (If the model is popular in both India n China) u get two updates like Note 5 pro got
Same time, Note 6 pro released with Oreo n it will get ( or already got ) pie n won’t get Android 1

That is just a ploy! Marketing!
They all, including Google/Mi/Qualcom/intel…, do insignificant changes, give new name and boast too much so customers are psychologically pushed+trapped to buy new phones often.
Most of these changes are certainly insignificant to 95% users
S/w like Android and h/w-processors etc are evolved enough that we can manage with one mobile for 5yrs, with necessary security updates, but these people won’t let us.
