Can’t say for sure. But, as a general rule, it’s safe to assume that all such sites/apps which claim to provide a “free” credit report (and a faux credit score — not the real CIBIL TransUnion score!) are going to use your data or sell it to make money afterwards. I stay away from free credit reports/scores and I recommend the same to everybody.

If you really need to know or care for your credit score then you should buy it from the official website: https://www.cibil.com/credit...e/

In the US, the government setup a website long ago — annualcreditreport.com — where every US-person can access his/her credit reports from all of the three credit bureaus once a year for free. It’s a shame that the Indian government (/CIBIL) hasn’t started providing this service yet. But I do remember reading a credible news article which mentioned that CIBIL will also start providing a free credit report once per year by the end of 2016.

@GoogleCA All of the three major consumer credit bureaus (as well as the business-oriented Dunn & Bradstreet bureau) have their own algorithms to calculate credit scores. This is why you saw such different scores. Needless to say, the score which matters in India for all practical purposes is the CIBIL score.

Free service does not always result in data selling, particularly when the same is provided by a trusted company run by professional people. We use many free online services when we wake-up in the morning till we go to sleep, just recall gmail, twitter, whatsapp and Facebook…when did we find someone paying for these services? Did anyone remember paying bankbazaar for helping us get a loan or money control for suggesting a right investment? These companies have their own privacy policy and terms of use and any personal or transactional data could be analyzed to suggest a right product or service and they could make commission in advertising those products! My suggestion would be that It is better to understand those terms of use and privacy policy and take an informed decision before signing up with any service (paid or free) online. Free is not bad and paid is always not good, there are many public deposit ponzi schemes which ran away with customers money!
