Newspaper article says Airtel plans to drop 3g network entirely by March 2020 but as of now its 3g network is working in Delhi-NCR & probably most of North India.

NO. 2G network is not going to be shutdown ever. 3g network is getting redundant and hence is being phase wised removed. Please reverify your info. nowhere 2g network will be shutdown. Not everybody can afford/needs/wants smartphone with 4g. We are already witnessing consequences of being online everytime.

It’s not like that. They can shut it if they want. Realiance shut down 2g services earlier.

Look Reliance GSM/CDMA network was controlled by Anil ambani company . Its only when Mukesh Ambani ventured into telecom with Jio startup that reliance group decided to close their entire network 2g/3g/4g network. Just like Aircel Telenor Tata Tele Loop Mobile etc had shut down due to decreasing profits and expiration of 2g service license, same thing happened with Reliance 2g network, their licencses were expiring in many circles and they decided to close it Technically Reliance GSM/CDMA was different from Jio (even though we say Reliance Jio). Jio had specifically decided that they would only offer 4g/4gvolte services. What i basically meant was that as per our current operators bsnl-mtnl airtel voda-idea none of them will close 2g network because for decades they have invested in it and people will always use a mobile for calling purposes (also for data). 2g is the basic tech by which sms/calls are done. a cheap mobile will always be there in market. No one will like to be served a bundled 4g phone like jiophone or airtelphone (it doesnt exist).

well then that lady was lying because there is no news whatsoever on any newswebsiteblog/social media of vodafone or airtel shutting down 2g. Many times these company employees have targets for 4g upgrades, they may have used this technique of lying that 2g is shuting down. shift to 4g. so that targets are achieved by them.
Whenever these institutions try to bully you its your duty also to question them at that moment.
But yes i agree with your overall point that companies banks institutions are doing what they want and nobody is stopping them. Eg; mandatory 35 Rs monthly recharge

I am not sure but if you are not receiving 4g signals on 4g sim then it is also an issue(sometimes you need to call cc to tell them to activate 4g on your sim as their system sometimes consider a 4g device as non-4g & disable 4g reception on 4g sim in that device).

Nothing is free. All mobile operators in india(except Jio & that too an assumption) are currently in heavy losses all because of sky high prices they paid for 3g/4g spectrum auction & then unable to recover their losses. These Rs.35 recharges are for this reason only & TRAI didn’t object because it knew about the real situation of these companies. BSNL is the only company with no such recharges but it has already accumulated losses of 90000 crores & has left even Air India far behind.

yes, nothing is free. But what i meant and perhaps what @rini50 too meant was that the authorities make rules but should stick with them also and not change just like that . We had that Minimum 20rs balance rule before service was deactivated that too was made by TRAI and then they changed it. There are so many other examples too like GST filing procedure and other rules they too have been amended so many times since 2017 that even the Finance Minister is clueless in press conferences. Adios
