If you need lot more speed and also want good looking  HDD go for WD My Passport .

If you use  Hard drive   mainly  for back-up of Important Data, movies etc or use with USB 2.0  WD Element is more than fine.

If you want best reliability ( lowest drive failure rate among any  brands) and other balanced features go for Toshiba.

Passport series adds Hardware Encryption which is important if your drive ever gets lost/stolen. Difference in price is marginal.

This isn’t bad but the 4 TB Passports are still better value.

True. But I have never seen a common user ( someone not a techie) use encryption on their  external HDD

Yeah. I wonder how long it will take for the encryption process even on a bare drive let alone a fully filled one considering how slow HDDs are despite HW assistance.
Edit: Just looked it up and apparently back in 2015 it was revealed that the encryption deployed by WD could be easily bypassed. Could not find any info ig anything has changed since.

4 tb drives are more likely to fail  than 3 TB and 2 TB

For  common users and non-confidential data Hard Drive Encryption can be an unnecessary  double edged sword.

If you forget password then you’d lose  all of your data…. If your drive enclosure with encryption hardware fails you’d lose all data.

You should look at these link’s.
