Nothing against OP, but it is a worthless device.

It was selling for less than 45k sometime back & then suddenly prices scaled for no apparent reason, other than hype.

128gb non-upgradeable SSD is very low.
Remember, it’s not exact 128gb as well & add OS memory too.

My suggestion: do not buy this laptop at all.
Its already zero value device in today’s times when 9th gen Intel processors are already out, & this dates back to 5th gen. Now imagine what will be its value in say 2-3 years when you try to sell it or upgrade.

It’s display is also very bad. Nearly one of the worst of all laptops selling today.

Most importantly, Apple will be dropping support for this device very soon. It’s production already stopped in 2017. So in case after 2 years you face any issue, you’ll on your own. Of course you can buy extended warranty for 18000 extra, but then the price of this ‘5th gen i5 laptop with pathetic HD display & merely 128gb storage’ will touch ~80k!!! joy

I was just wondering why hasn’t someone commented this yet. This was selling for 44k not long back on amazon. why in world would you make do with just 128GB SSD is beyond me specially in this day and age when application are taking huge amounts of space.

yes. Same one. Since Apple has stopped manufacturing this and this was the cheapest Apple laptop in India, sellers have limited stocks so artificially inflated the price of this laptop to loot people who just want Apple Apple Apple! Because people will still buy since it is still the cheapest Apple laptop available. Next is directly at 99000.

I agree for some points, but differ for some.

Battery backup – I agree. But that’s mostly because no one does any battery intensive stuff on this laptop. Watching videos or browsing internet isn’t anyway a battery intensive task.

Light weight – Agree. But better options are already available.

Fast bootup – Agree. But that too is because of SSD. New gen windows laptops with PCIe SSD also boot up in around 10 seconds.

Fantastic product – DO NOT AGREE! Aluminium body transfers a lot of electricity. If you’ve earthing problems in your house, especially in older buildings or bungalows in rainy season, you can literally feel current passing through this device when the laptop is on charging, even via a surge protector. I’ve macbook pro 2017 and face this issue regularly. Its not that high to give you an electrical shock, but vibrations can be felt easily.

Apart from that, just office and internet browsing is the thing. But that too is not good experience on this because the processor is not able to utilize the graphic card for web animations/modern rendering that chrome makes use of. The display resolution & ppi is also bad, because of which the text you see is not crisp. Instead, many time, you can literally see it pixelating. I’m guessing you might have noticed this to some extent already.

Still, given all that, if the price was ~40k, it’d still be acceptable. Since other brands give similar (but still latest) specs for ~35-38k, this would be acceptable for 40-43k for giving that lighted logo, but at 62k, not at all!

In Apple devices you won’t find big processors, big graphics cards, big heat pipes. They still manage to beat windows at almost every aspect but gaming. The reason is Apple is very strict about its hardware and software integration. Ek dam dictatorship wala rule hai. It’s just not about brand name. It never was about brand name. The way Apple performs has created the brand name. Apple is for very specific people for specific purposes. The people who wants to buy Apple and try to do gaming should stop.

Where else do you get 11hr of battery backup? Give one example bro. You don’t get windows you get Mac OS X. It’s not a UNIX like OS. It’s the UNIX. Mac OS has UNIX 03 certification. Yes the hardware is old. It is not going to play video games. It still can be used as web development and coding. Students should buy it asap. I am not joking. And since audio card installed is of high standard you can plugin you high impedance headphones and get stellar results. 11 hrs battery, light weight, zero hanging issue, good touch pad and keyboard, what else one would want from a semi business laptop?

I have a dell inspiron 7567 which come with a 6-cell Li-ion battery. Easily gives 7-8 hrs of backup. Has 4 GB nvidia. 128 GB SSD + 1TB HDD. Easily runs high end games. Doesn’t get hot. All this for 65K. You be the judge

Sorry buddy, but you must be living in some different world. I never got 11 hours battery from my MacBook air. It was max 8.5-9 hours, that too only in the first year of usage, that too only for normal text websites (not video or audio) and that too at medium brightness.

While watching movies, it was even less. My friend’s Asus Zenbook gives that much for a lesser price. Dell XPS gives nearly a backup of 7-8 hours for normal browsing and coding. I highly doubt that extra 1 or 1.5 hour of battery backup is ever going to be life saver so as to put 62k in this trashy laptop that even Apple has done away with.

And what what exactly do I accomplish with MacOS? Okay it’s a UNIX based OS and not DOS based. So? You think because it’s UNIX you’d get lesser viruses? Gone are the days when MacOS hadn’t problems of viruses. If someone still thinks that, probably that person already has virus on their Mac & they probably aren’t even aware of it. I’ve been using MacOS since 4-5 years now and not a single thing is better there. The only good useful thing I found was faster screenshots with cmd+3, but that boon becomes a name when you’ve to log your unit testing results evidence screenshots in a document.

UI again is cumbersome. As if macs weren’t made for multitasking. You need to minimize each and every single window of same application in case you’ve multiple instances open of it. Or else get confused in the jargaon of Mission Control or Exposé.

Web development mostly needs no extensive hardware. It can be done on a 25-30k i3 laptop as well. But rest of coding, this i5 is not able to handle Xcode 10 onwards. System starts to lag.

Light weight of 1.35kg is not even a thing in 2019. LG gram weighs less than 1kg. Asus & Dell laptops weigh 1.2-1.3kg.

You ask what else would someone ask from a laptop worth 62k? Everything better buddy, everything better, when it’s all already available.

There are many more points, but no point crying about them here I guess because this won’t be fruitful.

My advice to students: don’t even think of buying this laptop and waste your parents money. This is something for which you won’t even get proper support from Apple in coming years, if not months. In my opinion, students should always get a Windows machine so they can utilize all tools to the max which are out there & not get limited just because of a glowing logo.

No it doesn’t run high end games. It runs last year games at low and medium settings. Since it has a single fan it heats up. And since the GPU is set a 75°c threshold, beyond that temperature it throttles. And it should throttle as it is oriented for business purpose. For gaming there are Predators and MSIs

I have been playong AC Odyssey flawlessly on high graphics for quite sometime now. Also why would you want your GPU to even reach 75 when the optimum temp is 62-66. Agreed that its not MSI or predator but then those laptops dont give 7-8 hrs backup. Its good for my requirement of occasional gaming and frequent work needs. My whole point was abt the specs you can get in under 65k

You failed to mention more important points. For example you won’t be able to use NTFS file format. That means if you jump into Apple world you gotta change things around you. It’s a nasty nasty business practice. But there are solid points too.
1. Good battery. Despite your claims it’s still a good battery life.
2. Owning a UNIX machine has its perks. It’s a very very very stable OS. I mean Mac applications run so smooth. Memory management is so efficient.
3. If you buy a laptop other than Mac, high chances are that it comes with Windows home. You won’t be able to control your updates. You can’t run hyper v. So you choose to have a pirated Windows 10 pro.
3. All the best app development is done on Mac OS. The thing is when you are a student you are still learning. If you learn on a something great, like industry standard, then chances are that you you ll learn better. It’s just an assumption assuming that you are a really bright student who loves tinkering with codes.
4. Display is bad. Windows based laptops at this price don’t give a better display either. They hardly cover 55% of Adobe sRGB colourspace. So, they are not suitable for graphics related jobs at all. A few laptops have good displays. For eg, Acer Nitro 5 Ryzen( very inaccurate colour reproduction), ASUS Vivobook S15 sRGB, Acer Predator (85%). I don’t count ASUS Rog or Tuf as they give TN panels or 45% sRGB coverage. Shame. Dell, HP, Lenovo give sub-par displays @ 60-70k.
5. Apple doesbgive support. It ll not stop supporting Macbook air 2017. Here is a list of Macs that will support macOS Catalina
MacBook: Early 2015 or newer
MacBook Air: Mid-2012 or newer
MacBook Pro: Mid-2012 or newer
Mac Mini: Late 2012 or newer
iMac (non-Pro models): Late 2012 or newer
iMac Pro: All models
Mac Pro: Late 2013 or newer
Mac Pro (2009-2012): Support
So you ll get support my friend.
6. And it’s sad that you could not do much with your Mac OS bro. I quite agree a lot of innovations can be done on windows based laptops too. Frankly speaking, if Microsoft was not allowing piracy, I would not be able to type like this today. But if at a premium a student gets a better device don’t discourage. What a student can do with Mac OS internet can tell one easily.
7. Apple hardware is really good. It’s built like a tank.
8. Warranty issues are with every major companies.
9. Very good resell value. Here comes the brand name.
Do you know what kind of computers a student should own? Windows? Macs? Bolo. Wrong answer. Raspberry pie. You kick start your journey with a Single Board Computer which is powerful enough to code, stream etc. But not powerful enough to stream at full HD or play any video games and with a monitor and keyboard it ld cost you under 15k. Very solid platform to learn things.
