Almost sounds like they are now converting the offers previously available to everyone to a spend-based structure. If that’s indeed the case, It’s a very bad move. They will let Amazon Pantry and Amazon Now gain more grounds in their key markets. CC @sidbhai @masthead1 @BUTTERFLYBOY

I am much happy with Amazon as of now and have no complaints with BB because Amazon pantry is like a relief for me.

Edit: Regrigerator is getting more load these days.

Being a fan of BB (I rarely use that word — their customer service is THE best in India), it actually pains me to let my grocery business/purchases go to Amazon just because BB is lagging behind in offers. They recently also did the stupid move to disallow funding of the BB wallet via wallet offers. #BadSigns

Yes I also used them in the past and they have to be praised for their awesome service and delivery timinings. But I found out that its also a good practice to go to the nearby stores like Reliance or More as they also have a lot of bogos these days.
Well other side I also have to understand the point that you have a family here and you need a monthly grocery stock on time thus BB does everything for you. But this time will be tough for them the way Amazon is spreading its wings and BB is giving them opportunities to do that. It may be because funding might be an issue too as being a small company they have limited fundings so they are tightening their hands. https://cdn1.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_smile.gif
Edit: Well the service and delivery of BB still stand ahead of Amazon Now.

On a different note, i found BB’s service bad both in Chennai & Bangalore. Over the phone support is really bad including BB’s supervisors who aren’t any better than their front line staff. I have to admit that BB’s Social media support is excellent though.

I recommended one of my friend to try BB 2 weeks back. Since he was a new user, BB offered him a 20% coupon however he was unable to apply the coupon due to some error. I called BB customer care on behalf of my friend. They kept asking me to call back after 30 mins citing some excuse. This went on for like 2-3 times and i got frustrated and asked for a supervisor.Supervisor wasn’t much helpful either and i had to eventually seek help from twitter. An extremely kind girl called me from BB who helped me place the order. She was so helpful that i would have offered her a job with double the pay if only i had a business https://cdn2.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_toungueout.gif

Order was delivered on time however most items had so much dust in them they it took my friend nearly 10 mins to clean everything up. I just don’t understand how difficult it is for BB remove the dust from their products before shipping it to the customer. On top of it, there were some items whose expiry date was fast approaching.

@cybertechie I am surprised to hear about your bad experiences. My experiences with BB’s customer service have been superb in Bangalore as well as two other cities.

I don’t judge any grocery delivery service on whether I have 1-2 bad delivery experiences. But rather on how their customer service handles the case once I report it to them. You see, bad delivery experiences (missing items, close to expiry, damaged/open items, stale vegetables, etc.) are almost guaranteed in a grocery delivery service. So what really matters is how they resolve the issues.

On the resolution front, I have always found BB’s customer service to go above and beyond my expectations. And this is reflected in their delivery guarantees. I mean it’s unfathomable for a business in India to offer 50% extra refund for an undelivered item and 10% refund for a delivery delayed by even 30 minutes.

By the way, except for one case (out of the 10 or so requests), I was always connected to the supervisor after a short delay. And I did receive a call back from the supervisor when they failed to connect me immediately. Moreover, BB’s supervisors are well trained and are actually helpful (unlike Amazon’s floor supervisors)!

Dirty items are indeed an issue with BB sometimes as they don’t clean their delivery trays after each delivery. So the dirt (from the veggies) sometimes does soil the products for the next delivery. But your friend could have very easily gotten a refund or replacement for such situation.

Good to know that BB is serving you well.

I stopped ordering from BB in Chennai after a really bad experience. I had highlighted the incident in one of the threads in DD.

https://www.desidime.com/forums/dost-and-dimes/t...

I recommended BB to my friend since i thought their service in Bangalore might be better than Chennai but turns out that it isn’t much better in Bangalore either. Perhaps it’s just my bad luck with them.

I have a weird experience with BigBasket, first time it was no questions asked delivery.
Second time, they cancelled my order saying they don’t deliver in my area (they already did before), I was like what the hell and moved on. Then they contacted me back and said they’ll deliver my order the next day and it was going pretty fine, they took my order also I was asked to pay the extra money of the vegetable count (they should exclude those Rs 1-2) anyways. I had to wait till 9 PM to find out that they again decided that they won’t deliver and cancelled my order and refunded back my money.

Never thought of using BB again.

Also the first time I had to return the oils I got (the main offers which I got) because they were pretty bad in condition. Refund was swift though.

Have been ordering from bigbasket in bangalore for the last year and half. Experience has been very good.

Of course there were problems but resolution was swift and no headache.

Some observations

Vegetable quality which was below average year and half back has improved now.

I had got a nandini butter which was expired and there was a whitener to mask it. But they refunded.

If payment fails and money is deducted, they don’t do auto credit. Need to mail them even if they have got money.

Some time they miss a free items.

When there is a bogo offer, more often than not you will get a near expiry lot, unless the offer is from brand and you have in other malls also.

At a recent conference, someone asked a top guy from Amazon on how to compete against Amazon. And he immediately said: “Don’t do it. You will just lose.”

Place exploded with laughter.

Then he went onto explain one important point that determines the future of small businesses. And that is: “If you can’t beat them, join them.”

The best move for Big Basket, if they are really lagging behind, is to just exit. Just sell themselves to Amazon. The founders have been doing this for almost two decades now. They know this better.

I so wish I could start a fund-based company. But then again, successes here seem far-fetched.

The real winner, in between all these, is someone else. Like Shahrukh Khan. He made a ton of money just by posing with a big smile. What a life! https://cdn2.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_toungueout.gif

though one thing i like about BB is if purchasing on COD , you can return the item the same time and no crap packed boxes . I completely disagree with you. I somewhere believe that you have no sense of business at all. Every brand has its buyers and the market is huge and wide. Let the fight happen and the small business should focus upon the service delivery and you will see the results. I am 100% sure that people like me or @DealSeeker would always prefer to give BB a chance again provided they keep the level of their services up. Amazon Now has the shittiest reviews I ever heard in my life.
Yes a big fish eats a small fish but remember my friend that in this wild world one has to learn the tactics and strategy to beat the shit out of the bigger players. Discounts are not always the parameters which decide upon the success of the business. Its service and strategy. https://cdn2.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_smile.gif

Agree with the point of amazon now being shit. The pricing on the app and the store doesn’t match and you have to send the copy of the receipt to get the refund (amazon now price would be like 1150 and the bill would be for 950-1000 if it’s bigbazaar). At least reliance fresh would refund the difference themselves but bigbazaar doesn’t. I sometimes feel that asking for all these refunds might red flag my account for too many refunds and then I might have to start contacting and escalating (have experienced this when amazon now started and they were giving 200 cb on 200 and had to ask them to process it manually).

Also its never a good idea to buy veggies and fruits as it depends on the person who is delivering the items (don’t have good experience on BB either but its at least better than amazon now). Quality sometimes is a concern on amazon now but bigbasket royal has never failed me as their in-house brand and even if there are any issues they would pick the item and process a refund with WYSIWYG bonus.

I wish amazon runs out of fuel and doesn’t crush others to monopolize the Indian market. They should only be the best among others/market leader and not the only single provider.
