Bought a few but the cheap chinos and shirts seem to be fake.
Look at the costly cargos of Cat and you will see they all have Cat branding on them while the cheap ones have no branding that I can see.
Will cancel my orders probably.

Cloudtail is a trusted e-tailer in Amazon and Caterpillar is a renowned brand, I was about to order but as you have mentioned I just backed off and wondering why they are selling these fake cheap items.

Just before the launch of Amazon India, I was fortunate enough to visit their office and talk to some of the smart folks there. And the general rule has always been this: “Forget everything else. Just capture the market.” And they will do everything in their power to do that – from starting groceries, to joining hands with local giants, and even running at a loss.

Profit is secondary for Amazon India. First, they want to know how much of the market they can capture. And if it is substantial, then comes the “strategic” goal. Then comes introduction of “Amazon exclusive” products – and then comes smaller returns that leads to bigger profits.

All that is already happening.

Nothing is “accidental” here. Everything has a purpose. Each and every step. And if we compare today’s shopping with, say, 5 years ago… the “buyer’s behavior” has changed. People have trusted shopping sites. A large part of the audience in the IT sector are now used to it.

Pick up a phone from a mobile store, and you immediately think to check prices online.

Much of the credit goes to Amazon and the likes. Our buying behavior has certainly taken a detour, and now comes the “buying experience” – who gives us the best buying experience?

Amazon wants to capture that experience as well.

That is why Amazon India is following the footsteps of US Amazon. They are just introducing everything that is tested / proven to work. We Indians will enjoy all the features very soon, while losing a hell lot of money along the way… if spent unconsciously.
