he should be comfortable with the UI. if possible let him have a feel of MIUI or any UI u plan on buying.
also as others said screen is main priority while considering buying for elders. u can consider samsung m30 and similar m series models which have Super AMOLED displays.
also cam should be considered which elders usually use.
