As an Analogy to Net Neutrality consider a fictitious example of Road network being maintained and managed by government and we use this road network only to travel in between different cities in India

Assumptions:
—> For ease of comprehension and comparison lets suppose we do travelling for leisure or vacation purpose only
—> All cities in India are run like different companies and their whole source of earning is no. of people who come to these cities for travel and vacations.
—> Also, government maintains all Road network by taking Toll whenever we use it, and toll is charged at a flat rate of 10 rs per 100 kms.

So if somebody travels from Jaipur to Delhi for 250 kms he has to pay Rs 25 and for Jaipur to Ahmedabad has to pay Rs 65 for 650 kms etc etc. In this model anybody is free to travel anywhere, without influence of any governing body and will pay for whatever distance they have travelled. Their travelling decision will not depend on any other factor other than intrinsic beauty of those cities and the distance of those locations from Origin. This we can call as Road Neutrality and open market.

Now suppose government has sold this road network in parts to 5 different companies named AerTal, Volatone, GSNL, Ldea, NTS etc. And from here on its the responsibility of these companies to maintain and manage these road networks by collecting toll. Now suppose AerTal who got the hold of some road network in North-west part of country, says to all its customers that in order to promote travel-India vision of government, they will be offering free travel on incoming and outgoing roads to some cities, lets say to Jaipur. Means whoever travel to and fro from Jaipur doesn’t have to pay any toll. Whereas all other cities will keep on attracting toll at prevalent prices.

This practice will result in increased traffic towards Jaipur, at the cost of its competitors (other nearby cities). And Jaipur administration must be paying to AerTal some share of those increased profits. But it has resulted in influencing and governing the customer’s decision to travel freely without any intervention. Anyhow, once customer has accepted AerTal’s offer of travelling free of cost on some road networks, they have indirectly given AerTal an authority to change the Road Neutrality and manipulate the prices of travelling in cartelization with other cities as well.

Suppose there is a very good City to travel- Alwar (housing Sariska National park) and it is also at near to many cities like Delhi, Agra, Jaipur, Gwalior, Rohtak, Panipat etc etc. But the problem with this city is, since it is at very small distance from major cities and is too good and complete tourist location that people find it very economical to travel to and it reduces their number of vacations because they get a complete package here and also by travelling such a small distance. So, getting their revenues affected by this City Alwar, AerTal decided to increase Toll to Alwar to 100 rs per 100 km, citing it as Over The Top Service and stating that these extra revenues are required to provide good service at other location, else it won’t be profitable to provide road service to other locations. Well, now the real problem has become visible which infact started with reduction in prices of services to Jaipur and taking control of Road Neutrality.

Now, at this stage AerTal and other Road operators in other circles has got full control over us regarding what cities we should visit, and visiting what other cities should be extra costly.

Moreover, now there will be some more government organisation as well to monitor these pricing issues and they will be paid by Tax-payers money only. All in all that simple step of new business type is root cause of lots of COMPLEXITIES to arise in otherwise simple world.

PS: Road network can be compared to Internet Network which is currently managed by 6-7 Oligopolists
Jaipur is Flipkart where AerTal is offering free traffic
Alwar is OTP services like WhatsApp and Skype which are going to get adversely affected by Net Neutrality violation.

Moreover, once we have allowed Network providers the access to Price differentiation in Internet on type of traffic, it will lead to creation of an unfavorable environment for any new entrants where seasoned players will partner (bribe) ISPs to kill any possible competition to them. So leading to an inefficient market.

PS: Will proofread and edit any mistakes in this later-on.

read a statement (would bit be ankle to quote) from government that they are bent upon ensuring universal net coverage.
Net neutrality VS universal coverage definitely makes a case.

So they have succeeded in duping Indian consumers once again to bury the campaign.. These conniving Telecom operators know how to fool Indian consumers. Every missed call was taken as support for their vested interest…

Now they can try & force TRAI + govt. to implement their version of net neutrality with intense lobbying… https://cdn2.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_evil.gif
