Finally, one of the successful site www.tagg…om has shutdown its operations in INDIA.
Following is the message on their site :
Dear Users,

We have decided to cease our ecommerce operations effective immediately. We will not be taking any more orders from our users.

We started Taggle in June 2010 with US$1M in funding to build a sustainable and profitable business by getting the best service and product deals for our users. We have always believed in providing superior experience and value to our users. When we realized that service deals were not giving the best value to users, we quickly shifted focus to only products. Our users responded very positively to the shift and it reflected in our revenue numbers too, we grew our revenues 10 times within 3 months of the shift.

However, the current market conditions have many ecommerce players selling products at below cost price to lure users. The only way to sustain the business at this time is to get into a price war and burn a lot of investor money and try to outdo competition in a Last Man Standing game. This practice goes against our philosophy of building a sustainable and profitable company. Hence, weve decided to go back to the drawing board to figure out the best way forward.

We thank all our users who have shown trust in us and supported us with their business.

In case you have any questions or want to reach out to us we can be reached by email at care@tagg…om

Thank You
Team Taggle.

PS: We will be refunding Taggle Cash balance to the customers, but Taggle Points are not redeemable in cash, please see http://www.taggle.c…os for details.

I had been a good customer of theirs and got many items from them without fail.
I really feel bad for them.
I know this is not a Deal topic, however this message is for all the users who got the best deal ( 2000/- off from them in past at minimum cost of 8000/- in Sept 2011).
Wish they work with a good strategy this time!

ye to hona hi tha .. aaj nahi to kal …

in 1999 and 2000 there was a boom in ecom industry which soon lead to IT bubble burst.

India has become one of the hot favs of the world in all respects …. and now with the speed these sites are multiplying … it has to collapse … only the players with strategic investor MAY survive… but that is only MAY … like LETSBUY and FLIPKART … who have got angel investor upto a tune of 5-6 mio

And still we have not seen any scams … so … theres a lot to be seen yet

Me too feel bad that they’re shutting down. They are one rare breed of customer-focused deal sites.
I’ve had bitter experiences with DnY, Dealivore, Koovs and even Snakedeal, but it was Taggle who responded with the best of services.

They had the guts to encourage users to discuss their deals and products openly. Not the likes of DnY where all the catches in the deal are hidden deep below and users continue to fall in trap.

I didn’t know they were shutting down. I wrote to them about the IP deal vouchers not being accepted and that IP said Taggle was responsible and to contact them. Irritated by the indifference, I shot an email to Taggle (Which had shut down its services by then, but I didn’t know) in a rather harsh tone. You know what they did?

They replied asking for my Bank code and account number so that they could refund Rs.100, the value of one month’s voucher, in cash.

Now who could match this level of customer service?

Btw, after knowing of their demise I didn’t want that Rs.100. I’d rather send them a word of appreciation for the service that they provided.

In this age of cut-throat competition, we see sites everyday burning money in promos, freebies, discounts that mean many FPDs in DD. But remember, they do this mostly to gain the customer base and stay long enough till others give up and quit. Not at all a sustainable business model. We see so many start-ups cloned from Groupon (SD, Taggle, Dealivore, DnY, SoSasta, Koovs, MyDala, Via, Times Deals, Rediff Deals), how many of them do you think can survive long enough profitably? Also the likes of Fashion and You, 99Labels, Brandmile, TheBrandFrenzy, BagItToday etc. Someone someday is gonna crash sadly.

Whether they gave the BEST deals or not, I’m really gonna miss Taggle, a honest site. https://cdn2.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_cry.gif

Some more to follow suit.. most of these daily deal sites dont add much value, try to sell some trash with inflated prices.. I may sound odd in the group of mourners but what appears from the news reports is that they changed their strategy few times in a span of few months not giving enough time to see if the new strategy worked.. it sounds like founders were novice in business.. I wonder how they managed to get funding of the tune of $1M. India is different strategies and Ideas worked in the west most likely does not work here..

I dont see amazon or walmart coming to India very soon, because of two reasons 1. govt cant risk its position ( going against allies)allowing FDI in retail
2, even if they do allow they may have clauses to force retailers to source things locally rather than some sweatshop in china.. it may not be a viable option for walmart or any such retailer..
Someone mentioned Amazon buying taggle.. I find it funny because taggle didnt even have a foothold in the industry so why would any one buy such company? except for groupon…

i think the only reason to buy such company is that it was US funded initially and was proffesional in handling deals
