I had bought from wsretail . I had gone through 3 replacement and all were used products and lastly refund. Just search DD and find those deals which was termed as loot deal and read customers comments and judge yourself…
Whiteline food processor, Samsung Note 4 , Sol republic headphone, strontium flash drive are those deals which I am aware of that received used and open box product in name of price drop & clearance sale..

So what do you suggest if I need to buy a 1tb HDD which I need to keep for 5+ years?

Not all purchases will be the same
And even for that Note 4 deal, everyone was just bluntly relying on one Android app
Someone reported on that thread that after contacting customer care or service center they got to know that they are indeed original not used or refurbished

And for SOL republic that is expected as we have seen deals on that specific model like 3 or 4 times before, so some mightve got customer returned ones

For strontium deal, i placed two orders got one new and one tampered package
Returned the tampered one, happy with the new one i got

These things happen everywhere, no one is so serious about quality control even Cloudtail aka amazon is no exception

If you stop purchasing for this very reason then you wont be finding any good deals to buy at all

For HDD you can easily check warranty status with the serial number, so you can know the status without even opening the package

Warranty won’t be the full 3 years and would show from the date of import/manufacture as far as I remember. But then again it will at least show if it was registered ever and you can even send the invoice to WD support who would update the warranty accordingly.

I remember now, when i was registering for 1TB WD which i got for 1700 the warranty expiry date provided was 1 or 2 months less

warranty will be +3 months… like example if u buy dvd drive it carries 15 month warrant.. but end user will only know 12 month… selling time 3 months

Even you should have received it as you are from Bangalore? I received mine too but seems friend is backing out. Hope someone else would be better off talking it else would have to send it back. Would make me sad for depriving another dimer of a good buy.:-{

Mine still at Bangalore Airport transport centre
I will only get it on Monday, even though there is sunday delivery according to Flipkart for my pincode, they never attempt delivery

got it today. hdd is very thick compared with my 1tb old hdd also very heavy i think they used 2 quantity 1 tb hdd inside the casing

when you compare a 2tb hdd to a 1 tb hdd, it will obviously feel thick (any hard disk)
But this model is thicker than seagate backup slim model, slimness is not the USP for this model

They never delivered in bangalore for my pincode even if i had placed an order uner in-a-day guarantee. On sunday morning i used to get a message that shipment is out for delivery and by EOD i will get another message that package couldnt be delivered as recipient is missing at home
I got to know that they never attempted delivery through the delivery guys next day

They deliver it to me on sundays (Maybe I can’t say that for sure because in the past year I have only got it delivered once on sunday and at max have 6-7 orders thats it). But “getready” was having issues with sunday delivery

The empty space on the left of the plastic mold did make me worry for a sec but..


I tallied and everything matched with the printed box contents.

A VAT-paid bill arrived over email but to top it all off they delivered the package on Sunday itself!! No, this is not the most amazing part yet.

I received an sms in the morning but I ignored it ‘coz I’ve almost always received stuff somewhere in the afternoon; but not this time – received a call before noon ‘coz I’m not there yet! Asked the guy to hand it over to the watchman but he’s enjoying his Sunday and is nowhere to be found. So, the guy redelivered the package after two hours; my watchman collected it ‘coz I was still getting there. That’s SERVICE!

So, even though I’ve started preferring Amazon, I still consider Flipkart to be a close second. If someone tries to portray them as even worse than ShopClues, I’m sorry, it’s your loss.. you are deluding yourself!


And I must say, the drive looks one badass!
