Richard Branson plays chess
Branson is well-known for his adventurous side, and you’ve likely seen many a photo of the Virgin Group founder kitesurfing and hanging out on the high seas. But perhaps his favorite hobby is far more of a mental activity.
“I think chess may just be the best game in the world,” he writes on Virgin’s blog. “It combines the greatest aspects of many different sports — tactics, planning, bravery and risk-taking — plus you can have a cup of tea and often a stimulating conversation while you play!”
Branson says he’s likely played thousands of games in his lifetime, and he tells The Telegraph afternoons on Necker Island are always spent on the beach, oftentimes playing chess with his kids.
Jack Dorsey hikes
In 2011, when Dorsey was running Twitter and Square full-time for the first time, the cofounder told the audience at Techonomy 2011 that, to get it all done, he gave each day a theme. This allowed him to quickly recall and refocus on the day’s task once distractions were out of the way.
Dorsey said he would dedicate his Saturdays to hiking.
Meryl Streep knits
The award-winning actress says she loves to knit, and she’s even said to have hand-knitted the shawl she wore in the movie “Doubt.”
Streep admits that she spends much of her time on set knitting and finds the hobby to be therapeutic: “For me it was a place to gather my thoughts and understand the contemplative (life) … it’s a sort of clearing out place.”
In fact, tons of celebrities, especially actors who have plenty of time to kill on set between takes, love to spend their free time knitting. The list includes Julia Roberts, Ryan Gosling, and Christina Hendricks.
George W. Bush paints
It turns out that the former US President is also a prolific painter, having painted more than 50 puppies, numerous landscapes, and at least 30 world leaders.
Bush took up painting after leaving office in 2009 and spent a month in Florida learning the art from a Georgia-based painter.
Tom Hanks collects vintage typewriters
As Business Insider previously reported, the actor and filmmaker has been collecting vintage typewriters since 1978, and he uses one every day because he loves the sound, feeling, and permanence that comes with typing on one.
“Everything you type on a typewriter sounds grand, the words forming in mini-explosions of SHOOK SHOOK SHOOK. A thank-you note resonates with the same heft as a literary masterpiece,” he writes for The New York Times.
Sergey Brin is an adrenaline junkie
In his spare time, the Google cofounder likes to push his body to the limit in any way he can. This includes roller hockey, ultimate Frisbee, gymnastics, skydiving, and high-flying trapeze.
Marissa Mayer bakes
The Yahoo CEO tells San Francisco magazine that she’s always loved baking.
“I think it’s because I’m very scientific. The best cooks are chemists,” she says. She takes a practical approach to her baking, and has created spreadsheets analyzing cupcake and frosting recipes.
“My hobbies actually make me better at work,” she says. “They help me come up with new and innovative ways of looking at things.”
Steve Wozniak plays polo … on a Segway
Apparently Segway polo is a thing, and the Apple cofounder is the namesake of one of the sport’s major world tournaments, Woz Challenge Cup, the World Cup of segway polo. The game is played in four quarters, and five players on each team try to get a rubber ball past the opponent’s goalie.
“Segway polo is the one thing I will block off my calendar for,” Wozniak tells Quartz.
Tim Gunn soaks up art
The “Project Runway” cohost and mentor told The New York Times that he spends every Sunday at the Metropolitan Museum — “I stay there basically until the museum is about to close.”
He dons a suit — “I want to prepare myself properly” — and walks through Central Park to get there.
“I’m a huge lover of art,” he explained. “I go to the Greek and Roman galleries first. I’ll choose different objects to fixate upon. A trip to the Met can be very emotional. There are paintings there that just lift me off the ground. I feel buoyant.”
He then heads to the Balcony Lounge for a glass or two of wine and tea sandwiches and pulls out his iPad to research what he’s just seen. “I have become insatiable on the topic of ancient Rome.”
Warren Buffet plays the ukulele
According to Forbes, the Berkshire Hathaway CEO’s love for the ukulele spans decades.
Buffett often uses his musical talent for good and has donated instruments and lessons to children’s clubs in Omaha and given performances for charity.
Angelina Jolie collects weapons
As previously reported on Business Insider, Jolie is another Hollywood actor with a unique hobby: she collects knives with her family.
Jolie tells W Magazine that her mom introduced her to daggers when she was a kid, and that she has passed this hobby on to her son, Maddox. She says the knife blades she gives him are dulled so he can’t hurt himself, and that their dagger purchases are always “accompanied by discussions about violence.”
In another interview with Conan O’Brien, Jolie shows off her skills with a butterfly knife and explains that her fascination with weapons comes from the history behind them: “There’s just something beautiful about them.”
Larry Ellison sails
When Charlie Rose interviewed the Oracle CTO and former CEO about his addiction to winning America’s Cup yacht race, Ellison replied, “I don’t smoke, but I do sail.”
As Business Insider previously reported, Ellison took a sailing course shortly after moving to California in 1966 at the age of 22, and by 25 he owned his first boat, a 34-foot-long racing sloop.
COSTELLO: I want to talk about the unemployment rate in America.
ABBOTT: Good Subject. Terrible Times. It’s 5.6%.
COSTELLO: That many people are out of work?
ABBOTT: No, that’s 23%.
COSTELLO: You just said 5.6%.
ABBOTT: 5.6% Unemployed.
COSTELLO: Right 5.6% out of work.
ABBOTT: No, that’s 23%.
COSTELLO: Okay, so it’s 23% unemployed.
ABBOTT: No, that’s 5.6%.
COSTELLO: Wait a minute! Is it 5.6% or 23%?
ABBOTT: 5.6% are unemployed. 23% are out of work.
COSTELLO: If you are out of work you are unemployed.
ABBOTT: No, Obama said you can’t count the “Out of Work” as the unemployed. You have to look for work to be unemployed.
COSTELLO: But they are out of work!!!
ABBOTT: No, you miss his point.
COSTELLO: What point?
ABBOTT: Someone who doesn’t look for work can’t be counted with those who look for work. It wouldn’t be fair.
COSTELLO: To whom?
ABBOTT: The unemployed.
COSTELLO: But ALL of them are out of work.
ABBOTT: No, the unemployed are actively looking for work. Those who are out of work gave up looking and if you give up, you are no longer in the ranks of the unemployed.
COSTELLO: So if you’re off the unemployment roles that would count as less unemployment?
ABBOTT: Unemployment would go down. Absolutely!
COSTELLO: The unemployment just goes down because you don’t look for work?
ABBOTT: Absolutely it goes down. That’s how it gets to 5.6%. Otherwise it would be 23%.
COSTELLO: Wait, I got a question for you. That means there are two ways to bring down the unemployment number?
ABBOTT: Two ways is correct.
COSTELLO: Unemployment can go down if someone gets a job?
ABBOTT: Correct.
COSTELLO: And unemployment can also go down if you stop looking for a job?
ABBOTT: Bingo.
COSTELLO: So there are two ways to bring unemployment down, and the easier of the two is to have people stop looking for work.
ABBOTT: Now you’re thinking like a Democrat.
COSTELLO: I don’t even know what the hell I just said!
ABBOTT: Now you’re thinking like Hillary.

kya baat kahi apne dil ko chhu gayi
Our alarm goes off and we press the snooze button. This is sometimes more. Hence, no time to lose, we jumped out of bed into the shower and left flying home, often using a a crumpled shirt and grabbing a quick bite to eat on the way to work.
Basically, we live every morning always promising to do things differently the next day.
Although this morning routine allows you to sleep a little longer in the morning many medical field of people insist that starting the day with so much stress is not healthy. Just mark a chaotic tone inviting us to have even more stress as they pass the hours, and fully commit any extra rest that you may have had earlier in the day.
But there are some things we can learn to rewrite our morning routine almost entirely. Below is the guide of the healthy person to start the day:
1. They have a bedtime and respect this time
Set a bedtime and respecting it. It may seem funny or unnecessary for adults, but it is incredibly important. Our body is out of balance if we sleep a day at 22h and the other at midnight. This lowers your energy, then set a time to go to bed and get ready to go to sleep, like an important appointment. It is surprising to see how quickly a new routine is established.
2. They wake up early – type a 6 am
Wake up early will allow you to have enough time to accomplish their goals morning and it will change the whole rhythm of your day. Taking time for small tasks early in the morning – how to make your bed so you wake up – will help create a rhythm to carry out the activities during the day.
3. They sprawl before getting out of bed
By giving that sprawled, the muscles stretch and your blood circulation is activated, sending a warning message to the brain. The act of stretching releases endorphins through the muscles, neurotransmitters, hormones that are responsible for the well-being feeling. stretch-is also a way to stretch and maintain flexibility.
4. They drink lots of water
You do not drink anything since the night before, then start the day is moisturizing. Drink 1 or 2 glasses of water fasting is ideal for eliminating toxins helps to prevent diseases and activates the metabolism so that your body function well the rest of the day. You can measure the amount of water that is ingesting is sufficient through color of the first morning urine. The darker it is, the more water you should eat throughout the day.
5. They exercise before starting the day
The morning exercises offer a surefire way to give a boost in your energy. Even with a light exercise you have the impression of having done something. It’s a good way to organize your morning with no excuses to stay a little longer in bed. Remember that during this period you have twice as much energy to exercise than at the end of the day.
6. They take a hearty breakfast and balanced
Give your body the energy it needs to endure an active day ahead. It is also important to remember that the lack of breakfast impairs the body maintain a healthy weight, which is a risk factor for obesity. Consume fruits, juices, breads and whole grains.
7. They read
The morning reading can bring many benefits, from creating a space of your release stress, to make your brain between the work mode. Make reading a passage from the Bible, for example, will help you to better face the day.
8. They write a diary (seriously!)
There are several benefits to keeping a journal, but writing it every morning will help make your creativity awaken while strengthening their self-discipline and confidence.
9. They hear music
Music stimulates your brain. Allow your mind to receive a positive and encouraging message on your way to work, for example. Listening to music is not just entertainment, it can bring many health benefits such as improved memory and concentration.
10. They say more “I love you”
Show your gratitude by telling someone you love on a daily basis can have a powerful effect on your health. Not to mention that a little love, whether romantic or friends, helps relieve stress and to direct the rest of your actions throughout the day.

The Importance of Becoming Famous
Welcome to this Mastery Session called The Importance of Becoming Famous. I really don’t believe a lot in fame. The title is a bit of a misnomer. Here’s my point in the title: It’s not about becoming famous that’s important. It’s all about who you become on the path of being famous that is the real focal point.
A lot of us, we want to be iconic, but I think that’s just an ego pursuit. What’s really valuable in becoming the legend of your industry is the mindset, the creativity, the internal character, the bravery, the perseverance, the inner power you need to develop to become iconic, to become famous. That’s why I call this The Importance of Becoming Famous. I should also say that when I encourage you to become famous, it’s not about so you can have tons of money, and tons of toys, and tons of things. It’s about being so rivetingly great at what you do, that when you walk into the cocktail party, you don’t even have to introduce yourself. Everyone knows who you are because of the work that you produce. I’m going to say that again because I think it’s so fundamentally important. Everyone knows who you are because of the work you’ve done.
Allow me to share with you three insights that will help you become famous.
- - Craft Above Ego
Fame is the product of legendary work. Being a social media superstar is an end result. I’m blessed to be followed by a ton of people on Instagram and on Twitter, and who go to RobinSharma.com to get my newsletter, but here’s the key: Those numbers are by-products of my devotion to my craft. Craft Above Ego. If you get the work right, if you become monomaniacally devoted to releasing only work that wows all witnesses, then people want to be a part of it.
Here’s the real key: Work with love. If you are working for the money then your mind and your heart is off doing the work that will make you mind. If you’re working for the fortune, your mind and your heart will be off doing the kind of masterful work that people will flock to to receive. It’s such a paradox, which is, when you don’t really care about the fame, when you don’t really care about the money, when you don’t really care about the Facebook numbers, when you don’t really care about the social status, and you’re really make it your intent to do beautiful work and truly viscerally help people and be so good at what you do that you become the Michelangelo pf your industry, the by product is, everyone wants a part of it. Everyone wants to be around you. Everyone feels your love. Everyone feels your bravery, and you become famous. Craft Above Ego.
- - Quality Over Marketing
You can have the best marketing in the world, you can invest all the money you want in Facebook ads, and Google ads, and whatever the ads are, and TV ads, and if your product is not masterful, you’re never going to rise to world class. My encouragement to you is really focused on the quality of what you put out in the world. Obsessive attention to detail. Make the user experience beautiful. Make it original. Do it with love. Then what’s going to happen is, those who experience the quality of your product will become your goodwill ambassadors.
They will become what I call your fanatical followers, and they will go on the social media, and they will go into their social circles, and they will tell everyone about the craft that you produce and the work that you do. Then again, the byproduct will be, you will become famous. Again, it’s not really about the fame, but this Mastery Session is reminding you: quality over marketing in a world that celebrates marketing.
- - Art Over Brand
So many people are concerned about their brands right now. They’re protecting their brands, managing their brands, trying to create a iconic brand… Branding is important and we know it’s important, but if you are all about being an artist, you really go to your lab or studio and you are constantly practicing, investing in your learning, studying the masters. You never lose your apprentice mindset because what makes a master is, she always thinks she’s a beginner. The moment you think you’re a master, you’re on the path to obsolescence.
Put Art Over Brand if you want to become famous. Really get the work right. Invest in it. Just be that lone voice in the wilderness when everyone else is saying, “Put it out there. It’s okay. It’s pretty good. It’s average. It’s still a better than your industry peers.” Say, “No. That’s not what I stand for. It’s my name on it.” You say, “No.” Because you are fiercely protective of your good name. I want you to invite you to think about that. Everything you put out in the world has your good name on it, even though your signature might not be on it.
Do you want to put out anything that will diminish your reputation in the world? I encourage you, think about the work you do. Think about what you want to stand for. Think about your core value. Think about mastery. I’ll talk to you soon.
