Sylvester Stallone is one of the most famous American Movie stars. With characters like Rocky and Rambo he is a household name in the hearts of millions.

During birth, a wrong gynecological procedure caused Stallone to have one sided paralysis. At school, his middle class being and his facial paralysis became a thing for others to make fun of.

He started body-building because he wanted to frighten those who bullied him. Slowly he started thinking of a career in movies.

Around 1974, he had a pregnant wife, a dog that he loved, a lot of bills to pay and no success in his movie career.

What he still had was a belief in his dream that he will make it big.

Soon a time came when he went broke. He was heavily under debt.

Restless, anxious, stressed and still loaded with hope that he WILL make it big.

Things got so bad that he had to sell his wife’s jewelry and ended up homeless. Sleeping at the New York Bus station for days.

The cold American winter forced him to choose between electricity and his dog. He stood outside a local store and sold his dog for $25.

Two weeks later, on TV he watched a boxing match between Mohammed Ali and Chuck Wepner. That match was like a flash of divine inspiration… For the next 20 hours he sat and wrote the script of what today is a cult movie, ROCKY.

In the words of Stallone, “After nearly 1500 rejections”, he got a production house to offer $125,000 for the script.

Despite the poverty, pains, pregnant wife and lost dog… His dream was to STAR in the movie as the MAIN LEAD.

In an era when heroes were super handsome men and spoke fluently, a body builder with a facial paralysis that made him stammer while speaking, made Stallone the wrong choice for any role.

The studio bluntly rejected his offer… And Stallone went back home with another failure.

A few weeks later, the studio offered him $250,000 for just the script, and not him.

He refused.

Soon they offered $350,000 for the script but not him.

At that time everyone was pushing him to accept. It would be MAD not to do so. He was making a fortune.

He still refused.

Someone in the studio really loved his script, and as fortune favors the brave. They finally accepted to give $35,000 for the script and have him as the lead star.

The rest as they say is history!

The movie was made for $1 million and went to make around $200 million.

It won the Oscar for Best Picture, Best Direction and Best Film Editing.

Stallone was a “bankable” hero for the next 20yrs, till the late 90s… with his movies making billions of dollars.

And what did he do with the first $35,000?

He stood outside the liquor store, where he sold his dog, for 3 days. Identified the man who had bought it, and finally got him back for $15,000.

AND IN THE WORDS OF ROCKY BALBOA
“Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows. It’s a very mean and nasty place and I don’t care how tough you are it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain’t about how hard you hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done!”
― Sylvester Stallone, Rocky

Kindness in words creates confidence. Kindness in thinking creates profoundness. Kindness in giving creates love.

You fill your life with peace when you discover you only have to be yourself, to be what you have always been – a peaceful being.

With the good wishes and co-operation from everyone, even the biggest tasks of all will become easy.

Your time is most valuable, and so you should not waste it. You should not waste time in wasteful thoughts. Every second of yours is as valuable as a diamond.

Whatever you give comes back to you. Whatever you take will not stay with you.

…the caterpillar has the heart of a butterfly!” It is true that if we know within our hearts what we want to become, then we will become that.

We all want to be liked, valued and appreciated. There’s no doubt that we’re motivated by praise from those who matter to us. But it’s easy to become addicted to praise. Savour compliments without needing them.

Enjoy performing well even if no one notices. Give your best without expecting validation.

Begin monitoring everything you say to yourself and others. Ask this critical thinking question: “Is the way I use language programming me for success or failure?” Next, begin listening to the way people around you use language. Ask yourself the same question about them. This is an eye-opening experience.

Learn From Lord Krishna

‘For the one who has conquered the mind, the mind is the best of friends,
but for the one who has failed to do so; his very mind will be his greatest enemy.’
This is one of the most powerful statements Lord Krishna said while sharing
teaching of Shrimad Bhagavad Gita to Arjuna. Interestingly, this statement,
which was relevant then, makes a lot of sense even today. The only difference is
that the lessons of this preaching must be picked up by young entrepreneurs,
who we see as today’s Arjuna. Few lessons that young entrepreneurs can
learn from him.

1. Grounded

The very first formula that strikes the chord is their realistic and grounded approach.
There are many stories about Lord Krishna, who spent his childhood days in a
village and later embraced kingship, that clearly suggest how he stay rooted to
the ground even when he had the whole world in his hands.

2. True companion

We have all heard the epic Sudama and Krishnas friendship tale.
Such a true companionship rarely exists nowadays, but if entrepreneurs can adapt
this quality even partly, they would surely win over many friends who
will stick with them through thick and thin.

3. Master of all traits

Krishna was a teacher, an artist, a warrior, a preacher, an ocean of knowledge,
a learner, a lover and a master of all those traits. To attain success, you too
should master certain specific traits of an entrepreneur: the fighter, the problem
solver, the knowledge-seeker, and most importantly, the risk-taker.

4. Philosophy of Karma

Karmanye Vadhikaraste, Ma phaleshou kada chana,
Ma Karma Phala Hetur Bhurmatey Sangostva Akarmani.
Just focus on what you have to do and dont bother about the consequences.
Just trust your instincts and go ahead.

5. Subtle communicator

Beginning from his childhood days, Krishna was a great communicator; we’ve
heard tales of his mischievous yet smart doings. He knew what it takes to
convince people and sell your ideas. This is precisely what
every entrepreneur should master as well.

To live life with passion is to discover what invigorates and inspires your soul. Make time to identify your passion.

When you find your passion, it’s then possible to find direction and focus to do what you love.

You don’t have to focus on just one passion. Why not, do a little bit of everything that you love?

When you live with passion, you gain enthusiasm for life as a whole and as a result you’re better able to persist through life’s challenges.

Ask a flower in the field: ‘Do you feel useful?
After all, you do nothing but produce the same flowers over and over?’
And the flower will answer:
‘I am beautiful, and beauty is my reason for living.’

Ask the river: ‘Do you feel useful?,
given that all you do is to keep flowing in the same direction?’
And the river will answer: ‘I’m not trying to be useful,
I’m trying to be a river.’

Don’t try to be useful.
Try to be yourself:

that is enough, and that makes all the difference.
Walk neither faster nor slower than your own soul.
Because it is your soul that will teach you the usefulness of each step you take.

Sometimes taking part in a great battle
But sometimes you can do that simply by smiling,
for no reason,
at someone you happen to pass in the street.
Without intending to,
you might have saved the life of a complete stranger,
who also thought he was useless and might have been ready to kill himself,
until a smile gave him new hope and confidence.

The old Master instructed the unhappy young lady to put a handful of salt in a glass of water and then to drink it. “How does it taste?” the Master asked. “Very bad” Said the lady.

The Master then asked the young lady to take another handful of salt and put it in the lake. The two walked in silence to the nearby lake and when the apprentice swirled his handful of salt into the lake, the old man said, “Now drink from the lake.”

As the water dripped down the young lady’s chin, the Master asked, “How does it taste?” “Good!” remarked the apprentice. “Do you taste the salt?” asked the Master. “No,” said the young lady.

The Master said, “The pain of life is pure salt; no more, no less. The amount of pain in life remains the same, exactly the same. But the amount we taste the ‘pain’ depends on the container we put it into. So when you are in pain, the only thing you can do is to enlarge your sense of things….. Stop being a glass. Become a lake!”
