Why is the first letter of a word getting deleted when I type?

I’ve been having an issue for a few weeks now where when I am typing, the first letter of a word will be deleted right after I type it. For instance, if I’m typing “girl” I’ll start typing and it will delete the “g” right after typing and I’ll be left with “irl”. It’s very frustrating to have to go back and re-type the words. Does anyone know what’s causing this issue or how to fix it?
