How do you free up storage space on Android smartphones?

It's all too often, especially if you have an Android phone with less than 128GB of storage you try to install a fascinating new game or an intriguing new app one day and can't. You've used up all of your available space. So how do you free up storage space on Android smartphones?

Don't be concerned. If you don't want to buy a new phone just yet, and your current one doesn't have a handy micro SD slot for extra capacity, you may definitely free up some space with some easy home cleaning. Here are some ideas for reclaiming some of that storage space.

Android has a built-in tool to help you increase the amount of useable storage on your phone. It’s easy to find –

• Go to your phone’s settings, and select “Storage.” You’ll see information on how much space is in use and a list of file categories.

• Tap on the “Free up space” button.

• You’ll be moved to Google’s Files app — specifically, to its “Clean” feature, which offers suggestions on how to free up space by getting rid of junk files, deleted screenshots, large photos, backed-up media, unused apps, and more.

There are other handy tools in the “Storage” section. For example, you can find out how much space each of your apps takes up –

• In Storage, tap on Apps. You’ll get a list of all your apps and how much space each is taking.

• Tap on the app name. You can now see the app size, how much of the available storage is being used by user data, and how much space is being used by the cache. Two buttons let you either “Clear storage” or “Clear cache.”

(Note for newbies – Clearing the cache is typically a safe bet. Check to see what your user data is before hitting "Clear storage." You don't want to erase any crucial files or media by accident.)

Finally, there's a secret button for a function dubbed "Smart Storage," which allows your phone to delete backed-up images automatically after 60 days. It will also automatically delete backed-up photographs and movies if your device's storage space is less than 25% full. Google's Files app is where you switch it on (or off).

• Open the Files app and tap the three parallel lines in the upper left corner.

• Select Settings.

• Look for the Smart Storage setting and toggle it on.

This may appear to be an overly basic or ineffective solution to your Android's storage problem, but deleting a few useless apps actually helps a large amount! Because the apps that are using up unneeded space on your smartphone might help you clear out a lot of the clutter.

Another aspect that takes up space is audio files. You can get rid of some outdated audio files that you no longer utilize. This may take some time initially, but it will help you free up more space.

When was the last time you looked through your phone's photo album? If you can't recall, there must be a plethora of photographs and videos that you randomly grabbed or filmed, or that you downloaded from WhatsApp groups. And I never glanced back to see if I could erase them! You may consider eliminating any photographs or videos that are repetitious, fuzzy, or forwarded.

To delete the majority of these photographs and videos, Android users may simply utilize WhatsApp's storage management function to delete large files immediately. Go to WhatsApp > Settings > Storage and data > Manage storage to do so. The option to remove files greater than 5MB may be found here. This makes it simple to locate and erase photographs or files that are taking up a lot of space on your smartphone.

If you are unable to delete media from your phone's gallery after scanning it for media that can be deleted to free up space, just use Google's Photos applications.

The best aspect is that Google Photos is accessible from everywhere, so you may view them at any time. You may easily delete your images and videos from your phone's gallery once you've moved them to Google Photos.
