About LYF Flame 8 (Blue, 8 GB)(1 GB RAM) Blue

With the Chinese and Korean smartphone manufacturers having grabbed lion’s share of the Indian market, Lyf the home grown brand from Reliance has given a new dimension to the competition. With a series of smartphones that are packed with features and aggressively priced, Lyf has galvanized the market. Its latest launch the Flame 8 makes strong promise to the users. Here we review and take a close look at what’s inside the Lyf Flame 8

Like most other phones priced below ₹5000 there isn’t much in the design to talk about. It has the standard rectangular body with slightly rounded corners. The build is all plastic though the matte finish at the back does add some appeal to the appearance. It is lightweight and has the power button and volume rocker on the left against convention.  The phone runs on the stock version of Android Lollipop 5.1 and upgradable to 6.0 Marshmallow. The stock version is good and offers more for the hardware installed on the phone.

The phone comes with an 8.1 MP primary camera that has a LED Flash and allows you to capture average images in daylight, with the colour output being a little dull compared to other phones in this price range. Indoor photography and that in lowlight condition isn’t something that would impress users as images are full of noise.  The 5MP front sensor is also average in terms of the quality of selfies that a user can click. The phone offers 8GB of internal storage and this can be expanded by another 128 GB using a microSD card.

The Lyf Flame 8 is powered by a Quad-core 1.1 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 210 processor. When you think of the 1GB of RAM that the phone has it may not sound too exciting but it is targeted at customers who are looking to buy a smartphone for the very first time. You won’t have any issues running the basic apps on this phone though it shows signs of lag pretty easily if you go for heavy apps. The biggest USP of this phone is in terms of connectivity as it is a 4G VoLTE phone almost unmatched for this price. It also supports Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n and A-GPS making it a good package.

The Flame 8 has a 4.5 inch TFT FWVGA Touchscreen with 480 x 854 pixel resolution and 218 ppi pixel density which is average for any smartphone in today’s market. There is marked difference in the colour output of the phone. You need to look directly at the phone as it doesn’t offer you desirable viewing angles. The 2000 mAh Li-Ion battery is at best average, claims to give 480mins of talktime and can last a day with moderate usage.

Average Specs but Unbeatable Price

All in all, the Lyf Flame 8 is an average phone that has decent specs and features. But the phone was never meant to be a powerhouse but offer ordinary people a chance to try their hand on a 4G VoLTE phone and it does quite well in this aspect.

Why Should You Buy?

4G VoLTE – You won’t find a 4G VoLTE at this price and this is what this phone is all about as it allows people with the smallest budget to try their hands on a 4G phone

Appearance – When you compare the appearance of this phone to others that are priced in its segment the phone does stand out.
