About MI4 (White, 16 GB)(3 GB RAM) White

Xiaomi has focussed on cementing its place in the sub ₹10000 category smartphone market in India. And it hasn’t taken the company much to create a list of loyal fans. It’s no surprise that this Chinese giant has been launching a series of phones targeting this market and the Mi4 is the latest product in the segment. In this review we take a detailed look at the features and specs of this phone and see where it stands.

DESIGN & PLATFORM

It isn’t hard to miss that the Mi4 has broken the design language we have been used to seeing in phones from the manufacturer. The shiny stainless steel rim that runs along the edges gives it more of a Samsung or iPhone inspired look. It features unibody design with nice combination of plastic and metal which create premium look and feel. The buttons are ergonomically placed, making it comfortable for one hand use.  It runs on Android 4.4.3 KitKat with the MIUI 5.0 atop adding some exciting features to the UI. It can be upgraded to 6.0.1 Marshmallow which is something users would love.

CAMERA & STORAGE
If its predecessor, Mi3 had an awful camera the Mi4 comes with a really impressive one. The 13 MP f/1.8 rear camera with Autofocus and LED Flash is a delight for the users. It does extremely well in daylight conditions even though lowlight and indoor images have their issues with noise. Nonetheless the colour output is impressive and the images capture details pretty well.  The 8 MP, f/1.8 front sensor is even more impressive and lets you click great selfies with number of tweaking options in the camera app. The phone comes with two different internal storage options that of 16 GB and 64 GB. However, the absence of a card slot would pinch the 16GB users.

PERFORMANCE & CONNECTIVITY
In terms of performance you get a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 with an impressive clock speed of 2.5 GHz. There is 2GB/3GB of RAM on-board and if you choose the latter you get one of the most powerful devices for the price range. The 2GB model also does impress you with the performance. Play heavy games and you won’t see any signs of lag which is quite a thing at this price range. Talking about connectivity this is a 4G LTE phone supporting several bands. With this, you also get support for Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 4.0, BDS, A-GPS and GLONASS. It also comes with an Infrared Port which is a novelty factor.

DISPLAY & BATTERY

The display is one of the selling points of this phone and it features a 5 inch IPS LCD Capacitive Touchscreen with 1080 x 1920 pixels resolution and 441 ppi pixel density, which makes images sharp and clear. The viewing angles are over the top and this is one of the best phones to spend hours on YouTube! The 3080 mAh non-removable Li-Ion battery is good for a phone that packs in a good camera and display, and would easily last a whole day for most users.

Brilliant Display, Great Performance but Has Storage Issues
The Mi4 is a great phone to own if you consider its camera, display and performance. The only sore point is the absence of a card slot which will hurt users, who go for the 16GB model as this can restrict their choice of apps and media to be stored on the device.

Why Should You Buy?

Awesome Display –
If display is one of your most important buying criteria you can choose this phone without an iota of doubt in your mind. The colour output is great and so are the viewing angles

Good Performance – The phone comes with a powerful processor and users who opt for the 3GB model would love pushing their phones to the limit.
